The Review Score of 9.090 for Ashworth Grange is based on 25 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.371 for Ashworth Grange is calculated as follows: ( (141 Excellents x 5) + (111 Goods x 4) + (33 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 286 Ratings = 4.371

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.719 for Ashworth Grange is calculated as follows:

      1. 23 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 23 Positive Reviews = 2.300 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (23 Positive Reviews ÷ 64 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.719

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. I think the carers at the home are wonderful, nothing is too much trouble for them whenever I go they are very pleasant, also if they have any concerns they always make a point of having a word with me. If I ever had to go into a home this is the one I would choose.

I spent a lot of time looking for the best possible care home for my mother. Ashworth Grange was way a head in terms of the facilities and built quality. In the three years my mother has been in the home she has been fantastically cared for by all the team. They are proactive and sort any medical issues immediately without requiring the family to chase. While being in a care home isn't ideal for the person or their family, the team at Ashworth Grange have been wonderful throughout.

My mum came into Ashworth Grange Care Home (residential) in November 2015. At first she was very unsure having had a bad experience with my dad who died of dementia 14 years ago and was very badly treated in a different home, not very far from Ashworth Grange. I too worried but my mum is now quite settled and looked after well.
The staff are lovely to her and understand her needs. My mum had a massive stroke which took all her speech, but is fully understanding and can make her needs known, we are all happy.

My mother was admitted into Ashworth Grange over 2 years ago suffering from Lewy Body disease, which is a form of dementia. During this period her condition has slowly gotten worse, until now when she is bed-ridden.
Her care has been excellent, the staff treat my mother with care and dignity. The home itself is very clean and well maintained, there is also a sensory garden for use in the summer. I would not hesitate in recommending the home for any person with dementia.

The standard of care is excellent. The facilities are also excellent, staff are friendly and caring. However, the billing and administration side of this business is shambolic. Every month the bill is incorrect. Every month a phone call is needed to rectify mistakes. It is not easy to gain access to a member of staff to deal with these issues. We are very happy with the care and comfort the home provides, but this is undermined every month by billing mistakes.

When I first walked into Ashworth Grange I could not believe how perfect it was (and still can't) It must seem like home from home for the residents. The staff are all so friendly and make you welcome on every visit. My one and only complaint is every time I visit my husband he has always got a lot of his clothes missing they are not all in the laundry so therefore must be in other residents rooms.

Mum has advanced dementia and has been here for almost three years. She and the other residents are always clean and well dressed reflecting their personalities. She likes the food and has remained healthy. The staff are kind to the residents, helpful and always willing to try to cheery them, providing drinks and biscuits. The residents are always treated with dignity and respect. The home is bright and cheerful and very clean it is good value.

Overall I think my mother is happy in the care home. However family members feel concern when we have to complain about the cleaning side and replacement of paper towels in the bathroom, the other recurring problem is the commode not being washed after being emptied, the overall cleanliness of the room is satisfactory but these two things are often overlooked.

I feel that the care my mother receives at Ashworth to be of a very good standard. Carers are kind, helpful and respectful towards her, and always willing to spend the time to have a chat or make mum a drink. I am kept informed of mums well-being in between visits and find Ashworth to be a first class care home with good food and excellent facilities.

As our mother has Alzheimer's we are completing this on our observations. She is often unkempt with dirty clothes when we visit. Her room is shabby, fridge broken for over 1 year. Although carers seem to care there is often no-one around when we visit (mid-morning) mum has "lost" lots of items including 1 slipper and 1 very expensive pair of spectacles, which we have to replace! Management are great at letting us know when she has a fall or similar. We are concerned about the lack of staff especially as her unit is home to dementia people who do get quite distressed at times and have been violent at items.

I find it difficult to give an opinion as there are things I am not fully happy with but in general do not affect my wife's care.
A care home can never be a substitute for home, but I viewed the care home (Ashworth Grange) ad a place I would not mind being myself. As I view a place for my wife as it is a place I would to to and this makes it okay for her.

My mother was no longer capable of living alone in her own home, even with family members and paid agency care staff visiting her regularly/daily. She was extremely lonely, housebound and at risk (eg. exploitation by callers; burning saucepans).
She didn't want to move into a care home but settled into Ashworth Grange immediately - the manager and other staff were so welcoming and supportive that I could see mum was completely relaxed. There was no sign of panic/anxiety feelings she had experienced in her own home. She thoroughly appreciates the 24/7 care, enjoys the singing and other activities and, of course, the company. Things which had formerly been problematic - eating, drinking, hairdressing, fingernails are all provided in the home. The family now have complete peace of mind.

Mother moved into the home 3 years ago and all times we have found her stay here very good indeed. The carers have been just great with her and looked after her very well. The food has also been very good, she is very picky but always found her something, she could enjoy. Also the management staff have also been so kind. I am sitting here with her now which might be the last time I spend with her as she has not got long to last now. Everyone is so caring and kind to her, cannot thank the staff enough.

My mum in law has been in this home for 5 months now and appears to have settled in well. I have seen first hand her enjoying the activities and the carers do a good job. Any issues however minor we have had, like shoes going missing have been promptly resolved. Any concerns re health have also been speedily addressed with excellent communication from both the manager and the receptionist. The home appears to be run very efficiently with the residents being well looked after. A nice improvement on her previous home.

She found herself getting more involved in arranging activities for the residents within the home and realised how important a varied range of activities can be for the resident’s daily life, and also in dementia de-escalation. Natalie then became sole Activity Coordinator for the home. This was a new role which Natalie built up herself by listening to the needs and wants of residents, and also their families and staff. She created a varied activity plan and also built up strong links with the local community.

Natalie is looking forward to bringing her wealth of experience to Ideal Carehomes. She works by the same ethos as all Ideal homes and believes that activities are central to excellent care. She has many goals she would like to achieve in her new role and can’t wait to enhance the current activities programme.
