The Review Score of 9.281 for Herald Lodge is based on 17 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.471 for Herald Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (110 Excellents x 5) + (82 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 204 Ratings = 4.471

    • Quantity Score: 5 Points are available for the number of 'Positive Reviews' for a care home / service. A Positive Review is defined as:

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.81 for Herald Lodge is calculated as follows:

      1. 17 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 17 Positive Reviews = 1.700 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (17 Positive Reviews ÷ 42 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.810

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). There are 5 Points available for the total number of positive Recommendations/Reviews submitted in relation to the number of beds at the Care Home.

The home is clean, welcoming and lively. Perfect when a resident like Mum needs stimulus and activity every day. The staff are also very supportive of the family when I come to visit. I get the feeling that there is genuine care and concern for my Mum's welfare.

My main concern is that if items go missing or staff are asked to do something like try on a piece of clothing to see if it fits, although staff promise to look for them and/or 'get back to us ' I never get a call. Management has promised to improve matters, but nothing changes.

I have been very pleased with the care and attention my mother has received over the past 17 months, on every occasion when I have had concerns about any aspect of her care the staff have been very helpful.
The management and staff are very easy to deal with and it is very comforting to know she is being so well looked after.

We had a party at Herald Lodge for my parents' 65th wedding anniversary, and the staff put in a lot of effort to make it a wonderful day to remember: decorating the room and providing a fabulous buffet. Many of our relatives and friends commented to us that the home 'has a lovely atmosphere'; and confided to us that they were relieved that my parents were in such a nice place.
After many happy months at Herald Lodge, my father succumbed to cancer and subsequently died there: the staff were wonderfully supportive and caring to Dad and the family; which was particularly appreciated by myself and my wife as we live 120 miles away. My mother also resides at Herald Lodge, and the carers have been very supportive to her since my dad's death.
I'm always very impressed by the continual cleanliness, and the enthusiasm of the staff to make Herald Lodge as much a "home" as is possible.

I cannot speak too highly of the staff at Herald Lodge and the care that they have given my mother-in-law. Often if a carer has a spare few minutes they will sit with a resident for a chat, and although they have a demanding workload, they are never too busy to listen to us if we have anything to discuss. The home's manager has successfully implemented many improvements, she leads by example, and she is enthusiastic about further changes to enhance resident's lives.
Recently the 'Forest Room' has been completed: a delightful area themed with forest wallpaper, camouflage netting on the ceiling for cuddly birds to 'roost', bird sounds, butterfly stickers, cuddly squirrels, herbs, water feature, and a light-up tree; the doors can be opened out to the garden. My mother-in-law spent a lovely afternoon there recently watching a film about the Amazon, which she was very keen to tell us about. Another room has been turned into a themed cinema room, and upstairs is a reminiscence room.

My uncle has been a resident for 3 and a half years at Herald Lodge. The present staff and management are the best i have experienced in that time. I observe more time is spent engaging directly with the residents. The floor my uncle is a resident on houses those with more advanced dementia. Most times i visit many are sleeping and TV is on. When activities are arranged my uncle gladly participates. For many residents on this floor they sit in the lounge where meals are also served all day. I feel more stimulation would be advantageous to his quality of life. Overall the care provided is good and i am pleased he is a resident in this home.

There are too many names to mention. Every member of staff treated my mum with the utmost respect and care right up to her passing. As a family we could not of wished for more. Especially over the final week of mums life. The end of life service/care was truly exceptional. Thank you all.

Sadly my mother passed away whilst living at Herald Lodge. The care and compassion shown, by the staff towards mum and family was outstanding people are quick to criticize minor mistakes but if they looked at the whole picture they would notice that this home is of the highest standing. Thank you to everyone who made my mother's passing a much less painful process.

Over the past two years there has been a number of staff and management changes. Now that the new manager has arrived hopefully a period of stability will follow. In saying this senior management have been open with relatives and have always taken on board any concerns and suggestions. This is much appreciated. I have always been impressed with the care and dignity which has been shown to my mother by the staff since she was admitted to Herald Lodge. This is not any easy environment to work in and I hope staff will be fully supported to keep up their morale. I hope as many outside activities can be introduced which will benefit residents and staff. I hope Herald Lodge continues to be run on a very professional an most importantly on a caring basis. It is an excellent resource and I would like to thank every member of staff who has cared for my mother.

The resident in the care home was my sister-in-law. During her last days the carers treated her gently and with dignity, always spoke softly to her, even though she could not respond, they had great respect for her. They also went out of their way to make sure the members of the family who stayed with her and had drinks, food etc. Nothing was too much trouble.

My mother became a resident as this home opened June 2012. Her care has been excellent, G.P cover and emergency cover also excellent. There has been various staff changes but good implementation of staff training continues regularly. Regular meetings between relatives and staff to raise problems and ideas occur. Various entertainments are attending weekly to monthly. Relatives can visit anytime. Would stay here myself if the care was needed for me.
