The Review Score of 8.792 for Herald Lodge is based on 9 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.463 for Herald Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (57 Excellents x 5) + (45 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.463

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.329 for Herald Lodge is calculated as follows:

      1. 9 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 9 Positive Reviews = 0.900

      3. (9 Positive Reviews ÷ 42 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.429

I am very happy that this care home does not employ agency nurses. Having regular staff gives the residents continuity. The staff are caring and very approachable in every aspect.

My uncle has been a resident for 3 and a half years at Herald Lodge. The present staff and management are the best i have experienced in that time. I observe more time is spent engaging directly with the residents. The floor my uncle is a resident on houses those with more advanced dementia. Most times i visit many are sleeping and TV is on. When activities are arranged my uncle gladly participates. For many residents on this floor they sit in the lounge where meals are also served all day. I feel more stimulation would be advantageous to his quality of life. Overall the care provided is good and i am pleased he is a resident in this home.

There are too many names to mention. Every member of staff treated my mum with the utmost respect and care right up to her passing. As a family we could not of wished for more. Especially over the final week of mums life. The end of life service/care was truly exceptional. Thank you all.

Sadly my mother passed away whilst living at Herald Lodge. The care and compassion shown, by the staff towards mum and family was outstanding people are quick to criticize minor mistakes but if they looked at the whole picture they would notice that this home is of the highest standing. Thank you to everyone who made my mother's passing a much less painful process.

Over the past two years there has been a number of staff and management changes. Now that the new manager has arrived hopefully a period of stability will follow. In saying this senior management have been open with relatives and have always taken on board any concerns and suggestions. This is much appreciated. I have always been impressed with the care and dignity which has been shown to my mother by the staff since she was admitted to Herald Lodge. This is not any easy environment to work in and I hope staff will be fully supported to keep up their morale. I hope as many outside activities can be introduced which will benefit residents and staff. I hope Herald Lodge continues to be run on a very professional an most importantly on a caring basis. It is an excellent resource and I would like to thank every member of staff who has cared for my mother.

The resident in the care home was my sister-in-law. During her last days the carers treated her gently and with dignity, always spoke softly to her, even though she could not respond, they had great respect for her. They also went out of their way to make sure the members of the family who stayed with her and had drinks, food etc. Nothing was too much trouble.

My mother became a resident as this home opened June 2012. Her care has been excellent, G.P cover and emergency cover also excellent. There has been various staff changes but good implementation of staff training continues regularly. Regular meetings between relatives and staff to raise problems and ideas occur. Various entertainments are attending weekly to monthly. Relatives can visit anytime. Would stay here myself if the care was needed for me.
