The Review Score of 9.408 for Barchester Harper Fields is based on 22 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.858 for Barchester Harper Fields is calculated as follows: ( (227 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 261 Ratings = 4.858

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.55 for Barchester Harper Fields is calculated as follows:

      1. 22 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 22 Positive Reviews = 2.200 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (22 Positive Reviews ÷ 80 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.550

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). I selected a care home or my dads respite with great care! It must be dementia friendly, have high standards of care and offer lots of activities every day! Attending events beforehand helped me choose Harper Fields. Staff are friendly and considerate. Facilities are excellent. Dads bedroom window overlooked a garden and very clean and was roomy! Corridors are wide, uncluttered and light (most of all airy). Day rooms offer comfortable seating and views to the gardens. Following dads respite he was happy to see me but also seemed at home at Harper Fields. Also all his clothes were clean and, ready for packing which is a blessing when returning home! We will be booking further respite at Harper Fields.

Mum has been at Harper Fields for a fortnight now. She moved from another care home, where for 6 months they did not get her out of bed, following a severe stroke and total left side paralysis. At Harper Fields a proper home has been found for her, she has been taken out of room to see other residents. A special surprise was arranged for her with a visit by a pony to her !! As a fit retired woman mum rode regularly and looked after a pony as part of her own. The change in quality of life by H.F is amazing compared to what she had beforehand.

My 90 year old husband was mobile & reasonably well until August 2014 but after a stroke he was eventually offered a place here in October 2014. It is an impressive & well run home. Outstanding in most areas & we are delighted he is safe, secure & content. The carers are most attentive, polite and professional but also very loving, encouraging and positive in all they do. They do so much for this family.

This is my second stay for respite care at Harper Fields nursing home and I can thoroughly recommend it. The staff are warm and welcoming, they are dedicated to providing care to each individual. Their response time to meet your needs is fast and their manager is always kind and courteous. I have always had my medications on time which is important for the condition I have.

Sensitive Care

My father, who suffers with Alzheimer’s, has been at Harper Fields for a little over 12 months. Prior to this, he had 24 hour care in his own home. The decision to move him came from our concern over him perhaps needing an increasing level of medical care.
We'd looked at countless care homes, none of which we felt comfortable with, until we came across Harper Fields.
We’ve been delighted with the care he has received, with such great compassion and good humour, which the staff seem to make look effortless, so he’s surrounded by a calm and peaceful surrounding, the quality of which is first class.
Thank you for continuing to take such good care of Dickie....

Very professional and reassuring care made to feel very welcome which made it more comforting to leave my husband on his first respite experience. He enjoyed all his meals and I would be happy to use Harper Fields in the future. A little more expensive than others in the area but still very good value for the money.

Harper Fields was recommended to me through a friend, who herself and her husband came for respite and told me how wonderful it was. My Husband has been here since November 2013, and it is a wonderful unit in every way. The staff and everything about it is marvellous and I'm so happy my husband is under their care.

I had a very good and well cared for fortnight at Harper Fields after an operation on my shoulder. It was a well needed rest and the staff couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful to ensure I came home feeling a lot better and able to cope for myself. I would recommend this care home to anyone who needs a rest or looking after. Well done to everyone involved!

My elderly Aunt (vascular dementia) became a resident in October 2012 and ever since has been extremely happy with the Home and the attention she receives. Daily activities, exercises and trips out keep all residents alert.
The Harper Fields team is always prepared to discuss any issues that may arise and very transparent with family relatives. Relatives can visit any time they wish. Quarterly Family Meetings give relatives an opportunity to discuss issues about the Home and receive briefings of developments.
Nothing but praise for the organisation.

My mother originally went into Harper Fields for respite. Yet after only a couple of days, she was so settled and happy, as we were as a family.

I myself do not keep good health, one of my sisters is in nursing and consequently works long shifts, the other sister lives in America part of the year and down South part of the year. With having my mother settled and so happy in Harpers we do not feel we have to be visiting her twice a day as we know that she is not only getting round the clock care but should we be needed at any time the wonderful staff will look after her until our arrival.

How do I praise the staff, I personally cannot single out one person as they are all so good, the wonderful team of carers, and the activities team are kept very busy with an amazing array of concerts, outings in the homes mini bus to some wonderful interesting places, Rachael who took care of our mothers and ours introduction to Harpers and everyone who we come into contact with on a daily basis. Everyone knows all of the visitors' names, and we are always greeted by smiles by everyone we meet on the journey to mother's room.

I know mother originally went in for respite but I do not think we could prise her out of Harpers with a shoe horn now. It is great for us as a family to know that our mother's final days (hopefully not for a long long time) will be spent being surrounded by so many caring, thoughtful and "special" people.

I cannot speak highly enough of Harpers Field and am so glad we found them.

God Bless you all. Eileen
