Review of Bowes House on Wednesday 18 December 2013 by Elizabeth C (Daughter of resident)

Staff made mum very welcome into an environment which was strange and frightening to her. They spent time with her and involved her in all activities, drawing her into the community. After 3 weeks mum has settled in well and seems generally happy in her environment.

Bowes House has provided my mother with a superb environment in which to end her days. The staff are delightful and nothing is too much trouble. The home provides a warm, comfortable home, which gives residents the freedom to live their own lives. It is also a lovely place to visit and becomes a really nice social occasion.

I have recently moved my mother to Bowes House, and I'm totally delighted with my decision. The staff are so kind and go beyond the call of duty - this includes domestic, kitchen, nursing, admin, and management. The food is delicious and Bowes House has the most wonderful atmosphere, full of fun and laughter. I would highly recommend this care home.

Review of Bowes House on Friday 26 July 2013 by Frances H (Daughter of resident)

My mother had three weeks respite care to give us a break from caring for her. She thouroughly enjoyed herself while she was ther, joining in the activities and was very sociable with the other residents and staff which she can't do at home due to the fact we have jobs and family to care for as well as mum. I would highly recommend Bowes House to anyone who needs to have care.

Description: Alison Barnes is manager of Bowes House care home. She explains why she’s still as passionate about high quality care as she was when she started her career in nursing. "My background is in nursing – I qualified in the late 1980s, so around 25 years ago now. I worked mostly in hospitals, in acute medicine, but I also spent eight years in the army, serving in places including Hong Kong and China. In 2007 I left the NHS and moved into care home management. Before joining Bowes House, I managed another care home in the local area. I’m still as passionate about high quality care and nursing as I was when I started my career. For me, managing a care home is about delivering high standards of care in a homely environment. I like to make sure residents have a say in how things are run - it’s their home, so they should be involved in making decisions. In my spare time I’m renovating my house on the seafront near Brighton and I know that it’s often the small things that can really make somewhere feel like home. One of the things that I think makes Bowes House special is the heritage of our building and grounds – at the heart of the home is part of the 19th century brewery that once stood on the site. We’re proud to play a role in celebrating local history and hope to be a valuable part of the local community too."
