The Review Score of 9.602 for Hartwood House is based on 21 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.762 for Hartwood House is calculated as follows: ( (202 Excellents x 5) + (40 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 252 Ratings = 4.762

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.84 for Hartwood House is calculated as follows:

      1. 21 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 21 Positive Reviews = 2.100 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (21 Positive Reviews ÷ 50 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.840

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). As a visitor I have only seen a small part of the home. Well provided sitting and dining areas. Attractive grounds but possibly not accessible t less able residents. Pleasant residents own room. I have not ever had a meal at the home but understand meals are good.

My mother initially spent two weeks of respite at Hartwood House in March 2015. She was so happy and comfortable after the first week that she decided she would like to become a permanent resident. Fortunately there was a vacancy. Mother was able to keep the same room and she never returned to her own house. She feels secure and cared for and each time I see her she tells me she could not be happier because all the staff are lovely and always kind to her and the food is wonderful. She has company when she wants it with the option of the privacy of her own room. My sister and her husband live locally and are able to call in and see Mother at any time. As members of the Relatives Committee they regularly meet the Registered Manager and her staff, all of whom show the kindness, patience and respect for individual needs which make Hartwood such a happy place to be for a 96 year-old. Visitors (including pets by arrangement) are welcomed and the Manager goes out of her way to be friendly and helpful to relatives or visitors. She knows each resident personally which is very reassuring. Mother had one particularly delicate problem recently and it was resolved quickly and sensitively by the Manager and my sister working together.

Hartwood House has its own special atmosphere. The building is bright, warm and spotlessly clean with books and pictures providing interest and stimulation. Lounge areas are quiet, beautifully furnished and designed with an emphasis on natural daylight. Mother has outings, escorted visits to local shops and communal singing sessions led by a professional musician. Her own room is comfortable with a pleasant view over the garden and there is ample space to display the many family photographs that mean so much to her.

My Mum just loves her life. She is in a place that she could never have imagined in earlier years and we are most grateful to everyone at Hartwood House for the exceptional care they provide.

I visited Gran today (Friday), and was once again reminded what a great place Hartwood is. She cannot stop singing its praises and it is well deserved.

While the home itself is amazingly well equipped and a lovely premises, it is the staff that make it what it is. Whether we visit with our dog or young daughter in tow the attitude and manner of the staff is always lovely. They clearly care so much about their residents and are so welcoming of visitors of all shapes and sizes that it is always a pleasure to pop in.

Thank you all so much for everything you do for my Gran and all the other residents, you do a hugely important job and you do it fantastically.

My husband's aunt needs care and help with dressing and washing. Thankfully the staff at Hartwood House have been wonderful! Their patient, kind and very happy care have given her much more confidence. The manager is a 'real angel' - always smiling and ready to help any time and anywhere! My best recommendation is that I would like to book my room - whenever that will be!!

My mother and father both suffer from Alzheimer's Disease which is very stressful for my sister an myself, who are the main carers for them both. My mother requires help with personal hygiene and is unable to look after herself or my father in he role of housewife, she needs complete care. My father needs help with showering but can get himself dressed.
We were recommended to have them go for respite care for two weeks, by our G.P and the team who look after them for their Alzheimer's care. We found this home to be able to provide the same quality, as our home care. Furthermore, they would not be separated after nearly 63 years of marriage.

I chose Hartwood House for my mother following a short respite stay. She really liked the environment and found the staff very kind and helpful. She moved in from her own home as a permanent resident in March and the staff could not have been more caring in making sure her room was made as homely as possible with her own familiar items and pictures hung on the walls. Having regular communication with her key worker has meant any concerns raised have been dealt with promptly ensuring she has settled very quickly into her new home.

My sister moved Dad from a care home that we felt was failing to meet his needs. We were most concerned that the trauma of moving would really upset him. On the contrary the excellent kindness and care he received on arrival and since has resulted in him looking happier than he has for a long time. The staff worked quickly to discover what he liked to do, the foods he enjoys and even the music that he enjoys listening to. I am impressed by how dapper how dapper he looks now and feel confident that the move has been entirely positive. (Great staff and a great manager).

After a year in nursing care at Hartwood, my mother passed away suddenly and peacefully. There is no where else I would rather it had happened. She was in her own room surrounded by people she knew and who were fond of her. The staff who have become good friends of mine were marvellous and made sure I was given all the information and support I needed and that when I went home I was contacted quickly to ensure I would be with mum at the end. When mum went to Hartwood a year ago I hadn't expected her to last more than a month or so. Many many thanks to all the staff on the nursing floor.

The staff are caring and responsive, treating the residents with respect and dignity. It feels as though I'm visiting my extended family when I visit. When my Mother had a stroke the staff responded promptly which enabled my Mother to make an excellent recovery, and contacted me immediately which means that I am confident that my Mother is safe.

My mother is in this care home as she has cancer and couldn't be receiving better care. Everyone is especially attentive and Moria Baxter the care home manager is absolutely brilliant, other care homes should take a leaf out of her book. Also its sister care home Woodlands House is equally as good. My daughter works there as a chef, so food is good. These people should be paid more money for looking after our old as its no easy feat.
