The staff, both care staff, nurses & ancillary have been excellent, the care staff showing great kindness to residents & empathy to relatives. Obviously the home has improved since refurbishment though the plumbing in the en-suite in Memory Lane fails to provide hot water more times than not. My husbands
room requires redecoration which I was told by the previous manage would occur. However having met the new manager I'm sure everything will improve
Reply from Camille Corbett, General Manager at Barchester Wykeham House Care HomeThank you Jean for the lovely feedback and I will ensure to share this to the team.
With regards to repainting of the room, I will liaise with our Head of Maintenance to carry out the works.
Thank you.

Noted various bruises from June to October 2025 on wife's body that are unexplained, Shirley is mainly always in bed unless I arrive and prompt staff to relocate her to dining or sitting room but mainly my requests are not met for various reasons, this leads to her getting depressed & frustrated, she
is taking antidepressants which she has not taken in the past.

Wykeham house is a great care home.
Our father has been a resident for just over a month now and we are really amazed by the huge improvement in him.
The care and attention he receives is fantastic and highly recommend them.
All the staff are great with the residents and so accommodating to family
and friends that visit.
Our dad wasn't coping very well when living at home with care but since he has been with the team at Wykeham house, he has really started to show a big improvement and looks and sounds a bit more like our dad again.
It's all down to the great care he has been provided so thank you from all of us.

Absolutely fabulous care home. Honestly feels like a home from home. They have taken the time to get to know my mum and us even though she has only been here a short while. Staff are always friendly and helpful. The home itself is clean and well looked after. The meals look very appetising and my mum
enjoys them.

The staff are exceptionally helpful, nothing is too much trouble. When you enter the home there's a coffee room, this is all free with fresh cake baked each day in-house. My mum has been here two years now, after being in another home in South London. I'm so pleased with the progress she's made and
her happiness, her previous home was dreadful in every way. The staff go the extra mile and the visitors and relatives are all made to feel welcome. This home has two activities ladies that really think outside the box with endless enthusiasm, they do bingo, quizzes and so much more, taking the residents out into the community pantomimes and such like. I joke with Mum that I will move in. The nursing staff and carers are lovely, friendly and approachable.
Thank you for all your care.

Wykeham House is a very good care home that my father is fortunate to be in. The staff are very attentive and supportive both with the residents and family/guests. They will go out of their way to help with special occasions and other needs.
The manager is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful
making time for you whenever needed.
Activities and events are aimed more at the female residents who seem to enjoy them, unfortunately my father does not get involved. The food has been below expectations for a long time now and would be the only real sore point for us.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.648)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.648) out of 10 for Barchester Wykeham House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.648 for Barchester Wykeham House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (195 Excellents x 5) + (48 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 261 Ratings = 4.648
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Wykeham House Care Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 76 registered maximum number of service users is 15.2, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
