My wife has to wait far too long when using the buzzer, when she needs the toilet. Carers will come in and turn the buzzer off and say they will be back soon with more help, but then there is another long wait! Sometimes my wife has been waiting for 30 mins and one hour on frequent occasions, this is
not acceptable and could be down to staffing shortages?
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at St GeorgesThank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding St Georges.

We are sorry to read of your experience with delays in your wife's call bell being responded to.
Please be assured that call bell response times have been highlighted and discussed with staff to ensure that resident's receive assistance in a timely manner.
We understand that you have recently attended a meeting with the home to discuss your concerns and you reported that you had witnessed improvement. We are very pleased that this has been the case.

Thank you again for your feedback. It is invaluable to us and allows us to take action where required.

Our Mum was a resident of St Georges Care Home in Bristol from December 2023 to February 2025.
She was happy at the Home and it was very reassuring that when we left her after a visit, she was safe and taken care of.
The staff were very good and very patient with her and she had her favorites.
Whilst
Mum was a resident at the home, she believed that she still lived in her flat and this made her very content (she suffered with Dementia), Overall. St Georges was very good

My wife has been a resident at the home for four weeks and I have found the care provided by the staff to be very good and very caring. I have had several problems with a resident entering my wife's room, causing her distress and despite my family making complaints, this continues to happen daily.

Mum has only been in St Georges for two months, but she is settled in very nicely! She likes the staff, facilities and the food. St Georges is better in her view than her previous care home. She says that she is in 'the best place' for her.

By and large the treatment by the staff is generally good. The room is a little small, but the view is very pleasant overlooking the garden with plenty of wildlife in evidence.
Sometimes there appears to be a lack of sufficient number of staff on occasion.
The food is varied and has improved, and
the portions are very satisfactory.

My mum recently moved here. The staff have and do work incredibly hard to get Mum settled. The care provided to Mum is exemplary. We are able to visit whenever we want within reason and don't need to book in advance. I've met the regional support manager, and I see the deputy manager on most visits.
The management team have an open-door policy. All the staff are happy in their roles. Any issues are dealt with promptly. Mum is the best I've seen her in years. Thank you all. The laundry lady is great.

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.113)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.113) out of 10 for St Georges is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 3.9 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 3.875 for St Georges is calculated as follows: ( (18 Excellents x 5) + (73 Goods x 4) + (25 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 120 Ratings = 3.875
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.238 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Georges is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.65
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 68 registered maximum number of service users is 13.6. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.6 = 0.588
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
