The Woodhouse Hospital, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire
The Woodhouse Hospital
The Woodhouse Hospital

The Woodhouse hospital provides specialist treatment and rehabilitation - including locked rehabilitation and a low secure hospital environment - for men and women with a learning disability, challenging behaviours and ASD/autism spectrum condition in small, gender specific units. Patients may also have been diagnosed with complex conditions including mental health problems or a personality disorder, and they may also have forensic histories with offending backgrounds.

Each service within the hospital is staffed independently by a dedicated team of nurses and support workers. The Woodhouse service provides a range of individualised care pathways in order to move patients progressively to smaller and more independent environments prior to discharge into the community. The specialist rehabilitation programmes are centred on one of the specialist care pathways designed for patients - these are, an autistic spectrum condition pathway, a sexualised behaviour pathway and a low secure pathway.

To support and compliment the rehabilitation treatment programmes, within the hospital setting is a fully accredited open learning centre where individuals are able to achieve educational and vocational qualifications led by qualified teaching staff.

This low security hospital is registered with the Care Quality Commission and able to accept adults with learning disabilities, Asperger's Syndrome or ASD/autistic spectrum conditions that have been detained under the Mental Health Act (1983). The learning centre at the hospital is externally inspected and regulated by the National Open College Network.

The Woodhouse Hospital

We were made really welcome, the staff are very friendly and provide sandwiches at lunch times. We come to see my nephew, but sometimes he doesn't want to see anyone, but we always stop and leave him some goodies. We have to travel a very long way to see him, but we would prefer for him to stop at The Woodhouse as he has settled down, every time he has been moved he has been unsettled.
