Living with Dementia and enjoying village life… |
|
|
Date of article: 13-Feb-09 Belong, the charity that is building Wigan’s first village for older people, says that the village has been designed so that all residents can enjoy the many different facilities that are available including specialist nursing and dementia care. The £9 million development includes a bistro, hair and beauty salon, activities room, shop, internet cafe and a venue that can be used for cinema screenings or dancing, complete with licensed bar. “We have our first residents ready to move in and our state-of-the-art design means that, with support from our staff, family and friends, they will really be able to enjoy life in the village”, said General Manager Gill Menguy. “We have staff specially-trained to support individuals with dementia, and qualified nursing staff to cater for those residents who also require clinical care. “All this support is aimed at providing choice and independence and is delivered in the most-up-to-date and comfortable settings which are based on the latest research”. Belong has already had more than 300 enquiries about Phase 2 of the village, which will feature 54 self-contained apartments adjacent to the new building. Construction starts later this year. |
