The UK's leading disability, rehabilitation and homecare show returns with added new features

Date of article: 02-Feb-10

Naidex 2010, the UK’s longest established disability, homecare and rehabilitation show returns to the Birmingham NEC on 20th-22nd April 2010. New and improved features as well as the latest innovations and trends in the industry are guaranteed to enhance the visitor experience for everyone.

The event provides companies with the opportunity to be part of an established show which, over the past 35 years, has grown to become the most prestigious industry event in the UK.

With thousands of products being exhibited by over 360 companies, the event gives visitors, including trade representatives, healthcare professionals, parents, carers and teachers, the chance to test, touch and compare the most innovative new products to aid independent living. From wheelchairs to scooters, adapted vehicles to pressure relieving beds and much more, all under one roof.

A number of major companies have already signed up for Naidex 2010; these include AKW Medicare, Contour Showers, Drive Medical, Etac, Invacare, and Kirton Healthcare. In addition, a number of new companies will be exhibiting for the first time including BT, Co-operative Xest and Aspect Conversions.

New for 2010 is the Naidex Charity of the Year with ‘When you Wish upon a Star’ as the chosen charity. The charity grants the wishes of children suffering from life threatening illnesses from the ages of two to sixteen. As well as children wishing to meet a celebrity, some wish for books, toys, or even a trip to Disneyland in Florida or Paris to meet their favourite characters. The charity also organises an annual trip for 400 children to go to Lapland and meet Father Christmas. As ‘Naidex Charity of the Year’, When you Wish upon a Star will be present at Naidex 2010 within the Kidequip area on stand E4. For more information on When you Wish upon a Star, please visit www.whenyouwishuponastar.org.uk

Visitors to Naidex 2010 will benefit from several new zones. The Naidex Car Zone in Hall 17 is a dedicated area for companies to showcase their products from the converted car industry. Companies exhibiting include Lewis Reed, Aspect Conversions, Sirus Automotive and Brotherwood. Similarly, visitors can see the latest innovations in assistive technology and communication aids in the new Communication Village located in Hall 19. Exhibitors in this area include BT, Dynavox, Liberator Ltd, Toby Churchill, RNID and QED.

Another exciting launch for 2010 is the Sensory Garden which is located in Hall 18, an interactive area which allows visitors to stroll through, sit and enjoy a functioning garden that appeals to all the senses. This zone will feature a range of product innovations together with natural planting, whilst incorporating garden design to meet the needs of disabled people. This new addition will inspire and educate visitors on how to make the most of a home garden with tactile planting, bright colour, interesting shapes, relaxing sounds and intriguing smells.

For the first time at Naidex, visitors will have the chance to ‘Meet the OT’. Those visiting the feature on stand E56 will be able to speak to an Occupational Therapist from COTSS-IP* and benefit from their comprehensive knowledge and expertise. The OTs can answer questions regarding daily living, mobility, work and leisure-related activities, as well as discussing the potential options available to carers. There will also be a directory on the stand where visitors can search for an Independent OT based close to their home.

“We are very excited about the plans for 2010. Following on from last year’s event which was the largest Naidex ever, next year’s show will be the first Naidex to cover three halls at the NEC. With the new zones announced we truly believe there will be something for everyone. We are also in the process of launching a new website which will further enhance the visitor experience prior to attending,” explained Event Director Liz Virgo.

As in previous years, there will be a comprehensive CPD and seminar programme, details of which will be released shortly along with the New Product of the Year Award and product showcase. For more information and to pre-register online for free entry to the exhibition, visit: www.naidex.co.uk quoting priority code E268.
