There is a major drive for training and development in the healthcare sector today. It is imperative for every company to ensure their staff, are skilled and competent to deliver the high quality care that all companies strive for. Currently the main drive for training is around the government's initiative to train staff to NVQ level 2 (Train to Gain). However, for an individual to complete an NVQ and for an employer to meet both legal and professional standards, training in mandatory and bespoke areas usually undertaken as short courses is essential. In addition, development is also required above Level 2. There are 6 - 7 mandatory training courses that employers must make available to staff to meet CSCI and legal requirements. In addition, there are the bespoke areas that are specific to the particular workplace i.e. dementia care, clinical courses such as, pressure area care, customer service, management, the list continues. In addition, most of the training then needs to be updated, in most cases on a yearly basis.
