Founded in September 1984 by a retired nurse, Ambless Society is a National Medical Charity with a Christian ethos, endeavouring to help everyone, regardless of colour, race or creed. Its aims are to alleviate distress, grief, aloneness and trauma, that accidents can cause to individuals and families. Its services are free to both sufferer and carer. Ambless befriends, offers professional counselling, pastorial and therapeutic care, quietly and discreetly. It administers the Alone register, while the comfort fund offers practical support. Accident patients can link up via the Daisy Chain, the charity sells a range of help books and gift products and publishes a Companion Newsletter, the Healthy Living Factsheet and SOS Helpcard.
