My mum has been a resident for the last couple of years. The home is exceptionally clean and always smells nice. The management and staff make the home a happy and relaxing environment. The activities team have a whole range of activities daily and ensure the residents are happy and kept occupied, they
do an amazing job. The menu varies and mum really enjoys meal times and the selection of food. The rooms are comfortable and spacious for the residents needs. The staff are attentive and my mum and our family are very happy with the care she receives.
Definitely recommend

The home is always lovely and clean with no smells whatsoever. The staff are friendly, cheerful and clearly love the service users. Her room is always clean, the linen is spotless and is beautifully presented. I just wish we could put things on the wall for her to make it more personal. She always looks
clean and tidy and has her hair done weekly. I have no concerns whatsoever and feel confident she is in safe hands.

Exceptional nursing home from start to finish! We have felt very welcomed and supported since my grandma arrived. All of the staff have been so kind and attentive, and have always gone the extra mile, and have kept us well informed. They treat residents like family! We couldn't have asked for a better
or more dignified care home for my grandma. Thank you so much to Julie (who couldn't have done enough for us!) and her team. We are forever grateful and would highly recommend!

Autumn House Nursing Home

from Katrina D (Daughter of Resident) published on 4 December 2025

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Our mum spent the last 3 months of her life at Autumn House after moving from a care home. The care she was given was really excellent; despite being very frail she was transferred to a chair so that she could be supported to eat with other residents and take part in activities. All staff treated her
with kindness and respect and all her needs were met. Mum died at the care home and myself and my partner were present. The staff were incredibly kind and supportive to us; they communicated clearly and promptly with me so that I could travel to be with her from Yorkshire. Mum was supported to have a really good death at Autumn House. The staff on duty at the time, Emma during the day and nurse Grace and carer Linda were so kind and supportive to us all ensuring that mum had necessary medication and was comfortable in her final hours. They made sure that we understood what was happening, giving us food and drinks and we were given a room to stay in. We cannot thank the home enough.
Reply from Alex Hartles, Operations Manager at Autumn House Nursing HomeWe are deeply sorry for your loss, and it means so much to us that your mum's final months were spent in comfort and dignity here at Autumn House. We're especially grateful for your kind words about Emma, Grace, Linda, and the wider team. They will be touched to hear how their care and compassion helped both your mum and your family during such a difficult time.

Thank you again for placing your trust in us and for allowing us to be part of your mum's journey. Our thoughts are with you and your family.

The Firs is an excellently run and well managed care home. The staff are its greatest asset - they are caring, professional and thorough. They treat the residents (including my mom) with respect and maintain her dignity. The staff are always very friendly and welcoming. All administrative issues are
dealt with efficiently and communication is first class. Medicines are administered diligently and daily activities are varied and excellent. A kind, caring ethos pervades the home embodied by the manager who is very much hands on and approachable. My mom has been extremely well cared for in the past year and my family are very grateful and reassured by the high quality of care of The Firs.

My mother has been at The Firs for the last two years. She settled in really well and that was due to all the staff being so incredibly caring and friendly. My mom enjoys the many activities at The Firs that include singers, school visits, animal visits and trips out for lunches and shopping, amongst
many other things. My mom enjoys diamond art and having a chat with other residents. There is a varied menu for meals and the food looks delicious. All the staff are very attentive and are quick to pick up on any issues. The home is always spotlessly clean and it is beautifully decorated. The Firs seems to be run very efficiently.

Lane House Care Home

from O L (Son of Resident) published on 21 November 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Lane House is a very good example of a 'traditional' care home.
Strong points:
Room design - most rooms have doors opening onto the courtyard garden or the main garden.
Team - a stable team means that care plans are implemented well and rapport is meaningful.
Kitchen - food is cooked on-site and
Mum's quirky tastes are catered for.
Staffing levels - staff work as a single team, ensuring there are enough to support residents.
Language - almost totally English as first language, really important for hard of hearing & confused.
We visited 15 homes in the area and this was equal with 1 other.
Mum went to the other home first due to availability. The results were poor, with numerous failings. We moved Mum to Lane House at the first opportunity and the difference was stark. That's where the list of strengths comes from. We sleep at night knowing Mum is safe and well looked after.

The firs is a lovely place, beautifully maintianed with particularly pleasant lounges. Every member of staff I've encountered has been cheery and helpful, with nothing too much trouble. The activities put on for residents are particularly impressive too - 'crafting' for the rollout of events celebrated
throughout the year... and an exercise class which feels like a workout for any visiting relative/friend who wishes to join in! I would recommend The Firs very highly.
