Cedar Mews Care Home

from J E (Son of Resident) published on 17 December 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I cannot speak highly enough of Cedar Mews. After a stay at the home for respite we were so impressed that we moved my mother in full time.
The service from all the staff has been impeccable and in particular the Customer Relations Manager worked tirelessly to ensure my mother's journey to full time
resident was smooth for both my mother and us (her family). On a personal note, we were not expecting this transition and accelerated need for care to happen so quickly, and the support we care we received was second to none (and that was after looking at many surrounding homes).
The rooms are nice, the shared spaces are clean and homely and the food is always tasty. I have also been impressed with the activities and special events, (and the quiz always provides a focal point for Saturday visits.) Finally, when visiting, the home has always been open and welcoming to our children and family dog.
All round a great choice.
Reply from Joanne Hughes, General Manager at Cedar Mews Care HomeThank you so much for the review and we are so pleased that your mother has settled. It is a privilege to care for your mother and support the family.

I was resident at Jubilee House for a fortnights respite care. From arrival to departure I found all the staff to be extremely friendly, pleasant and attentive. The laundry and facilities were all to a very high standard. It was reassuring that a number of the staff remembered me from my previous visit
from years ago. Should I need respite care in future Jubilee House will certainly be my no 1 choice.

I came to Portobello for respite care, following a hip operation, for 2 weeks. My very comfortable room was provided with a hospital bed, and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, who were kind, friendly, respectful, without being patronising. The food here is of hotel quality and always
nutritious. Two things I would change - my bins should be emptied daily, and the intermittent loss of water pressure on 3rd floor.

We celebrated our friend's birthday in the care home today. We were shown to the private dining room which had been decorated. We were treated to drinks and lunch from the bistro menu, followed by a cappuccino and birthday cake. The presentation of food was excellent and the staff could not do enough
for us and were very kind. We had a splendid afternoon and our friend who is a resident really enjoyed herself. Her niece turned up later with her husband, which was an extra treat.
A great experience.

When we arrived at Cedar Mews residents were sitting in the reception area chatting and generally having a good time. The atmosphere was welcoming and friendly. Ryefield Court

from Laura K (Daughter of Resident) published on 4 December 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Our Mum lived at Ryefield for 8 years. She loved it from day one, and described it as being like living in a hotel. The carers went out of their way to make her feel comfortable, and to emphasise that this was her home. They got to know all her preferences and foibles, and always did their best to
accommodate them.
Mum had Alzheimers, so during her time at Ryefield, her health slowly deteriorated. The staff at Ryefield adapted their care to each change, and continually did everything they could to maintain Mum's dignity and quality of life. Their small acts of kindness to Mum (eg putting her Christmas tree up during Covid, without being asked, when I was unable to get in) often moved me to tears. Mum's best friend, who visited regularly, has told her son that if she ever needs to go into a care home, she wants it to be Ryefield Court. My brother and I always had peace of mind knowing that our Mum was being well cared for.
Reply from Madge Wang, General Manager at Ryefield CourtDear Laura, Thank you sincerely for sharing such a beautiful and heartfelt review. It means so much to our entire team to know how comfortable and at home your mum felt during her eight years at Ryefield Court. Hearing that she described it as "like living in a hotel" brings us great joy, as creating a welcoming, relaxed, and homely environment is at the heart of everything we do.
We are truly grateful for your kind words about our carers. They take great pride in getting to know each resident personally-their routines, preferences, and unique little quirks-so they can make each day feel familiar, supportive, and respectful. Knowing that your mum felt understood and cared for in this way is incredibly meaningful to us.
It has been a privilege to care for your mum over the years, and we are grateful that you chose Ryefield Court to be her home. Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughtful feedback.

When mum arrived she was very disoriented, prior to arrival Loyce spent time with me which was very reassuring especially as mum was not her normal self. I feel mum has thrived at Cedar Mews.
They have built mum up and making sure she has her medication regularly has aided her illness to stabilise.
I
feel mum is living a good life and enjoying the environment and activities. She has also built up good relationships with the residents and staff.
We feel as a family we too have a good relationship with the residents and staff and the communication has been excellent.

With work I visit many care homes and the vast majority are places I would not wish on anyone. Jubilee stands out with the quality of the the place and the quality of the staff. The staff are lovely and many go overboard in supporting my mother. She is very happy here and is not normally an easy person
to please. This is an exceptional place because of the staff and they ensure that the residents are well looked after, and their needs are carefully considered. There is nowhere else I would wish my mother to be.

Fernhill House encompasses all that is good about care for the older generation; we are so very glad that we chose this beautiful place for our relative. The love and devotion shown to them by every single member of the team at Fernhill gives us absolute peace of mind which is crucial. From the moment
you walk through the doors, you're greeted and welcomed like old friends, always offered the most beautifully-presented refreshments and generally treated like you are arriving into the bosom of a family home. There are always activities on offer for the residents to take part in, but the vibe always remains relaxed and serene for those who prefer a gentler pace. All of the residents receive a huge amount of one-to-one time from the entire team, not just the wonderful carers.....the kitchen team, for example, take time to learn what will best tempt residents' tastebuds in order to surprise and delight them. Medical care is exceptional yet discreet, allowing absolute dignity.

Mum first arrived for respite care over the summer time. She "loves it" and has decided to stay on.
She has had a new lease of life here, making new friends and enjoyed the sociable mealtimes and activities. This is where she wants to live.

Shinfield View

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I spent 2 weeks at Shinfield View following surgery to remove a kidney. After 2 visits to familiarise myself with the setting I was confident that I had chosen the right place for my post operative care and recovery.
My expectations were surpassed. I had a lovely spacious room with an outlook to the
garden and a door which allowed me access to the garden. The staff were excellent. They were attentive, friendly, caring and efficient.
The whole atmosphere was supportive and I felt at home very quickly. I had several visitors who were always welcomed whatever the time and often joined me for a meal.
The food was excellent. There was always a good choice and it was tasty and nutritious.
I was supported with my recovery and accompanied to visits with my GP.
All in all this was an excellent experience which enabled me to recover well.
My thanks to the wonderful staff who cared for me so well.

If you are looking for a care or nursing home, stop looking. You won't find one better than Leyceater House. We looked - trust me we looked everywhere! We wanted for Dad to go home and it was a massive deciuson for us, even though we had no choice because his needs are so high. Leyceater House was
the only one we wanted Dad to go to and they co.pketely understood how hard it was.The management is excellent and has chosen and works with a simply unsurpassable team. Our Dad comes first, he care staff are compassionate, kind and experienced. They exceptional because the management is exceptional. I would wholeheartedly without reservation recommend Leycester House and thank them all from the bottom of my heart for their kindness and care - oh and the food is amazing!
Reply from Joshua Findlay-Oakes, General Manager at Leycester HouseThank you so much for your truly beautiful review. The Leycester House team are an incredibly dedicated and caring team, I am so pleased you and your Dad have experienced the best of Leycester.
