From the day my father moved in, I had a sense that Leycester House was going to be the right place for him. The stated person-centred approach is clearly not just words - staff show a genuine interest in my father and treat him with dignity, kindness and respect. He required intensive support initially,
which was delivered with compassion and professionalism, but his independence was encouraged wherever possible. The staff all seem to take great pride in what they do, whatever their roles, and there is always a friendly, welcoming atmosphere in the home with lots going on. My father is invited to get involved, but there is never any pressure to do so. As family members, we have been actively welcomed as partners in my father's care and encouraged to visit as often as we like. Thank you, Leycester House.

I would describe Portobello Place as an excellent care home. It has comfy spacious bedrooms, lovely dining room and beautiful open spaces for entertainment and socialising. The staff are caring and attentive. They care for each individual, meeting their needs and encouraging and facilitating them to
be the best they can be. Our own experience is that my aunt was in poor health when she arrived 1 year ago, needing 2 carers and maximum help. She is now walking and taking part in many of the activities. She is now sleeping, eating and healthier than she has been during the past 2 years.
Reply from Cindy Alland, General Manager at Portobello PlaceThank you so much for your lovely review and kind words, it means so much to us to have achieved such a great experience here at Portobello Place.

I would highly recommend Leycester House to anyone looking for a caring and professional home for their loved one. As a family, we visited several homes in the area while searching for the right place for our mum, and we found Leycester House to be exceptional in its patient-centred approach to meeting
each resident's individual needs.

The entire team is attentive and aware of Mum's specific needs, and from the moment she arrived they supported her with kindness and patience. They helped her settle in during what was a very difficult and emotional time for our family, providing reassurance and compassionate care throughout.

As a family, we are kept regularly updated about Mum's care, and staff have been very supportive in involving us in any decisions relating to her care and wellbeing. Although it is still early days for Mum at Leycester House, we already feel reassured that she is safe, comfortable, and being very well cared for.

Having visited Blenheim House regularly for six years, I confirm that currently it maintains a high standard in care and environment. All staff do their best to ensure residents' needs are met, which in some cases must be a test of patience. The staff turnover is not as frequent as in the past, this
must benefit residents & Berkley. Section headed "facilities" is slightly marked down as I have no real experience of some to compare it with but ideally it should be between 'Good & excellent.'

Since my friend came to Cumnor Hill House she has had excellent care. Post op hip surgery in January, she was welcomed back like an old friend (she first became a resident in August 2025). Special occasions are marked. All carers very friendly. Good nursing care & medical attention. Lovely physiotherapists.
Caters to the individual. Excellent food & drink. Careful security system (car parking not adequate).

We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding our car parking. The Lodge at Burcot Grange

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
The first thing I noticed when my Stepdad moved into Burcot was how every member of staff is cheerful, extremely helpful and kind. Nothing is too much trouble and they all made us feel that they had all the time in the word for his care needs.
The daily activities are well thought out and we loved
how all the family are always included in every aspect of daily life. Nothing was too much trouble. They even organised an impromptu trip to the pub for my Mom and stepdad when We could not longer manage to transfer him in the car. When he reach the end of his life, the staff looked after us as much as my stepdad. Endless cups of tea, biscuits cakes, hot meals and a friendly smile were so welcome and offered always.
A truly wonderful home which we feel so privileged to have been part of. When you go to Burcot- you are part of the family and the care is just how you want your family to be cared for.
Reply from Kiran Chaggar-Smith, Home Admissions at The Lodge at Burcot GrangeThank you so much for sharing such a heartfelt review. It truly means the world to our whole team. We are incredibly grateful that you and your family trusted us to care for your stepdad, and it's wonderful to hear that you felt supported and welcomed from the very beginning.
Our staff work hard to create a warm, family-centred environment, so knowing that their kindness, attentiveness and willingness to go the extra mile made a difference to you is deeply appreciated. We're especially glad that the pub trip and the daily activities brought joy and inclusion to your family.
During such a difficult time at the end of life, it is an honour to be able to provide comfort not only to our residents but to their loved ones as well. We're truly touched that you felt cared for and supported when you needed it most.
Thank you for your beautiful words and for being part of the Burcot family. It was a privilege to care for your stepdad.

I couldn't have asked for a better start to my step dads time at Fernhill House. The staff have been absolutely brilliant in welcoming him and making him feel at home. They also make us (our family) feel at home and welcome, they are such lovely people. In fact, this is the biggest thing that stands
out to me and my family, the team at Fernhill House go above and beyond in making us feel like we belong there too which is such a lovely feeling and it allows us to spend as much quality time with my step dad as we can. My step dad has been so happy in his first couple of weeks there. He really enjoys the time that the staff spend with him, they are always checking in with him and seeing if he is OK or needs anything, sometimes just stopping for a quick check in and chat which he really appreciates. For the times he likes to be quiet, he has the flexibility to go off into several fantastic different spaces (Bistro, Cinema, Lounges) or to his lovely room. It's a wonderful home, Thank you!
Reply from Drew Gallagher, General Manager at Fernhill House Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share these truly lovely comments. They mean the world to us. Our team genuinely cares about every resident, and we always try to go above and beyond to make each day special. Knowing that our efforts are appreciated gives us so much joy.

It's wonderful to hear that he is enjoying the spaces we've created - we put a lot of love and care into making them welcoming, comfortable, and full of opportunities for quality time and happy memories. Seeing our residents engaged and content is why we do what we do, and your kind words really remind us of that.

My father has been at Portobello Place for nearly 3 years now; it has been just the right place for him. We have really appreciated the care and love that he has been shown over this time through various ups and downs. I feel that we are kept well informed as family on all aspects of his overall care.
Many of the staff have known Dad for some time now and it has been really heartening to see the genuine affection they have for him.

Special mention to the events team who have been great in getting Dad involved in a wide variety of day-to-day activities and trips out. The food at Portobello is really excellent and was probably the clincher for Dad when we all came for our initial visit; the catering team really do a fantastic job.

Management run a tight ship and this shows with motivated, friendly and professional staff; we are confident in and grateful for the care that Dad receives at Portobello.

I am so grateful to Leycester House for the way in which they cared for my 93 year old mother and for me during her recent short stay. When I contacted them they responded very helpfully to the urgency of our situation and fast tracked all the preparation for her arrival, without skipping any of the
essential processes. My mother had very complex and fast changing needs, but the staff came to understand them very quickly and got to know my mother as a person, which was not easy becuase of her deteriorating condition. I was very impressed by the communication systems which allowed all the staff to keep track of the care being provided to each individual, and also by the genuine care demonstrated, which was never hurried and always highly skilled and professional. All the staff - nursing, hospitality and management - were amazing. And the catering team were outstanding - the food was brilliant, and every possible dietary requirement catered for.

Fernhill House Care Home

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My husband moved into Fernhill House last week. We had been dreading him having to leave our home on a permanent basis (as I had reached a point where I was struggling both emotionally and physically to care for him at home). We needn't have worried. On the day of the move The Care Manager came to
pick my husband up from home and we were greeted with the warmest of welcomes by all of the staff. Right from the start it has felt like "Home from Home". The nursing and care staff have taken time out to get to know my husband's likes and dislikes and have treated him with the utmost dignity and kindness. Family is the most important thing to my husband and it was lovely at the weekend when our family came to have afternoon tea with us and then we spent a couple of hours in one of the beautiful lounges with the grandchildren playing board games. It really is a "Home from Home".
Reply from Drew Gallagher, General Manager at Fernhill House Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share such a beautiful review. Your kind words truly mean the world to us. At Fernhill House, ensuring that our residents feel happy, safe, and genuinely cared for is at the very heart of everything we do. Every day, our team strives to create an environment filled with warmth, comfort, and joy, where residents can feel valued, respected, and able to enjoy life to the fullest.

Equally important to us is the peace of mind of their families and loved ones. We understand how much it means to feel reassured that those you care about are not only safe but thriving. Hearing that your Husband feels content, engaged, brings us immense pride and gratitude, and reminds us why we love what we do.

It is incredibly rewarding to know that the dedication, kindness, and thoughtfulness of our entire team-from carers and chefs to housekeepers, maintenance, and administration-have made such a positive difference.
