We chose Chadwell House after many visits to care homes in the area and feel extremely fortunate that we were able to get a place for our mum. All of the staff, from the manager to the cleaners, welcomed Mum like a member of their own family. They have supported her in settling into her new environment over the past 6 weeks. Anything we have requested has been granted and they have listened to our requests and concerns and have given us as a family peace of mind and that we have done the to right thing for mum in moving her into the home.

The home itself is welcoming and you are not hit with a 'smell' on entering the home as with many others I visited. The rooms are of a good size and are in the process of being repainted. The daily entertainment is excellent and mum is encouraged to join in and once she gets going really enjoys it. They have some weekend entertainment that the family can attend and the Silver Sunday they had was great, and to see Mum clapping and singing was fantastic.

First visit here with my wife and parents to visit a great aunt. Immediate impression was one of homeliness - essential in my opinion. The staff came across as jolly and very friendly, showing natural, relaxed interest and kindness to my great aunt.

I cannot really comment on levels of care but my first impression was very encouraging and the home did stand out from others I visited over the last few years.

My mother was very happy at the home and treated with dignity and respect. The staff were very helpful in every way and the meals were excellent. My mother before she went there used to wander about at night and a great effort and care was taken to monitor this. Any problems I had which were few and far between were dealt with excellently.

My husband went in for respite care for two weeks, management, staff and carers were all helpful and caring towards my husband. I can't thank them enough from both of us.

Great staff who really care about the residents they look after.
All the rooms have en-suite bathrooms food is very good and there are plenty of activities for residents.
My father is very well looked after her and he is very happy which is very important to us as a family.

The most important issue is the ability or willingness of the staff. Most of the staff are great. I am aware of one staff member that is not so good.

Find staff helpful and they care well for my mother. Rooms are kept clean and tidy. There are activities for the residents if they wish to participate.

My mother has been a resident for 4 years and 3 months and is extremely happy in the environment. I am confident that without the care (albeit she is very active) she receives, she would have passed away by now. So it's a big "THANK YOU".

Most staff are lovely. The place looks welcoming and divided into units. Individual units equate to an individual atmosphere and quality of care.
Downstairs is preferable for prospective residents as they can sit outside during the summer.
Food is poor and minimal.
Breakfast: Cereal/toast. Economy brand. Hot breakfast is 'optional'. Mostly dementia. It's up to the residents to request it - it's not actively offered.
Evening Supper: The same most evenings i.e frozen chips, with something else frozen or sandwich.
Small portions. Unappetising. Served at approx 17.30pm. Unless 'requested', no other food offered in evening.
Tip: Review food intake. Bring in snacks for relatives to have in their room.
Entertainment: Rarely witnessed, but some good staff can occasionally compensate for the lack of dedicated entertainment.
Not all the baths are working, and bathrooms are cold. Apparently, residents prefer showers. Overall some really good staff but needs serious funding.

I am really sorry to hear some of your comments, in particular, the ones about the food as our chef manager regularly speaks to our residents about the menu and listens carefully to their feedback. We are however very grateful for this feedback and will ensure it is passed on to our catering team. Our home has a dedicated full-time activities leader who organises stimulating activities for our residents to take part in and we are always keen to receive feedback or suggestions for new activities.
Furthermore, we are in the process of having two new baths fitted and I do sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this has caused. If you would like to discuss anything please do come and see me I would be very happy to talk through any concerns.
