Chaplin Lodge is a friendly, welcoming care home in Wickford, specialising in care for elderly people with residential and respite care needs. The team of staff within the home are also skilled in looking after individuals suffering from a form of dementia, Parkinson’s and Strokes.

My father was made welcome from the first day. He has settled in and has made a few friends. He needs coaxing a bit more to change clothes on a regular basis.
I would like to see a more stimulating group or one to one activities.
Access into the home is a bit slow and needs a shelter for cold and wet days, the small porch is not big enough.

Thank you for your comments. We recognised that there was an issue regarding activities for a period but hope that you have seen the changes made since the commencement of our new team member. Your suggestions help us to improve our practices and are greatly appreciated.

The staff are really lovely and professional with their care. The residents seem happy but with elderly care you have to be logical and realise you will see residents who have dementia - a little unhappy and uncertain - but it is good to see the carers reassuring everyone and being professional in how to deal with all the residents. It is not an easy job so I fully appreciate the staff.

We noted some issues regarding activities and made necessary changes to improve the quality and quantity of the activities available to residents. Our new team member will continue to work hard to ensure high standards are met. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Nice atmosphere - motivated staff- Dad looked clean, tidy, happy.
Dad does gardening and handles pets all of which he loves. It is good to see him happy and well looked after by happy staff.

I am very pleased with the standard of care, kindly and helpful staff, nothing is too much trouble for them. I am also impressed with the attempts to stimulate my husband's interest in various activities. The opportunity to make friends with other elderly gentlemen made such a difference to him. He is very happy here.

Overall good standard of care. However, on many occasions, we have noted no member of staff in attendance when residents are in situ in lounges. I feel this should be definitely reviewed by the manager/on duty manager.
Clocks and calendars not always showing correct times and dates ( could be confusing to residents).

I am very happy here, the staff look after me well. All my needs are met. The staff are friendly, caring and helpful with all my needs. The home is clean, I was able to bring my reclining chair and television from home. I am able to sit in the garden when I want to.

My mother has been resident here for 6 months. In this time she has been happy and her wellbeing has improved. She has settled well and likes all the staff.
On my part, it's the first time in a couple of years I have not had to worry about her.
I feel she is safe here.

Thanks are improving with new management and staff. The care home is being decorated and tidied totally, making it nicer to see and be at.
Staff are friendly and also helpful for any questions or concerns that there may be.
