The Review Score of 9.3 (maximum of 10) for Ardath is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 9 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Ardath in Google's Search Results - more info
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.
The Average Rating of 4.349 for Ardath is calculated as follows: ( (46 Excellents x 5) + (51 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.349
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.
1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.
If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.
The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ardath is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:
3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4
Target of 6.4 positive Reviews (32 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 8 Reviews ÷ 6.4 Target Reached = 1
When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Review submitted from a Postal Card by Margaret P (Cousin of Resident) on Thursday 30 November 2017. Relates to November 2017.
My cousin has a spacious, light room overlooking the garden. She enjoys her meals which are tasty and attractively served. I speak from personal experience as I had lunch with her last week she is always tidily dressed and staff often chat to her as they go about their work. Her face lights up when she is spoken to as she has always been a sociable person. The staff made her 100th Birthday last month a very special occasion which she much enjoyed. In general, she is content which pleases me.

Review submitted from a Postal Card by Vanessa H (Daughter of Resident) on Monday 20 November 2017. Relates to November 2017.
My father was a resident in Ardath for just under two years. The staff were always caring, considerate and keen to ensure he attended activities he would enjoy. We often discussed changes to diet or other ideas to enhance his stay and staff were always keen to hear them. During the last days of his life, it was so obvious how much staff cared, how genuine their concern. My father could not have had better care.

Ardath has been very supportive to my gran and myself in getting Gran a room, the correct support and the natural settling/adjustment gran needed following forty plus years of living alone. Ardath has approachable staff, who show care and attention to the residents. All residents have individual en-suite rooms and there are lounges and dining room which has helped gran be more social than living alone. I am very grateful for Ardath, it has made a difficult situation into a right decision.

Review submitted from a Postal Card by R L (Son of Resident) on Wednesday 8 November 2017. Relates to October 2017.
My mother was a resident at Ardath since 2013. The family were impressed with the cleanliness and 'open door' nature of the care home where visiting is encouraged. Meals of a high quality. We found the management very dedicated and available to discuss any issues. They dealt with difficulties quickly and thoroughly.
We have been well supported as a family and whilst fees are quite high, it was money well spent to care for our mother.

Review submitted from a Postal Card by Sheila M (Daughter of Resident) on Monday 6 November 2017. Relates to October 2017.
The staff are generally helpful and caring. It is better if the staff speak good English as residents are often deaf. The staff are generally overworked and seem to start a job and not clear up after them, leaving the house untidy. The furniture seems shabby, such as broken zips on cushions and many chairs. Weekends are usually badly staffed too as are bank holidays, without a senior member of staff being on hand. Some of the public areas seem to be dirty, especially in the dining room, after a meal, and also the stairs. Generally, the staff are very hardworking and patient.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your review, and for meeting with Lindsey, our Care Home Manager, to discuss some of the points you have raised.
We are pleased that you find the overall standard of the home good and hope that you are now feeling happier with some of the items mentioned above.
As discussed, most of our team at Ardath are English, and you informed us the two members of staff that are not, communicate well with your mum. Though we are using less agency staff now, there may be the odd occasion we will need somebody at short notice. We do try to avoid the use of agency staff and wherever possible we try to ensure they have a good standard of English.
You mentioned that on occasion staff have left boxes of gloves in the corridor, leaving it looking untidy. To address this we have ordered some more glove dispenser units, we’re reminding staff who are called away unexpectedly to go back and check their previous area was clear, and are conducting more spot checks.
Following the feedback we received from our staff and residents, we have this year increased our staffing levels, so staff should have plenty of time to fit in tasks that they need to complete and should not be overworked.
The residents have requested to improve the dining room area and the home will be having new dining furniture. We are aware that some of the chairs in the home also need to be replaced.
A senior carer is always available throughout the weekend, and Lindsey, the Care Home Manager, and Carol, Deputy Manager, also work some weekends.
Staff do endeavour to clear and clean the dining room as quickly as possible after a meal, and we will make sure to keep an eye on this area and the stairs.
It is fantastic that you find the staff hardworking and patient, they are a great team that genuinely care for the residents as if they are a part of their own family.
Thank you once again for taking the time to give us your feedback, and please don’t hesitate to see Lindsey, Carol or Claire, anytime you are at the home.

An effective, caring home which is made all the better by the brilliant staff. Cannot fault it in any way. Always welcoming. My 88-year-old mum receives first-class care and love. So glad she now lives there.

Ardath carers have looked after my aged mother for 3 years and 4 months. She had a stroke early on and was partially paralysed. The staff looked after her very well and supported me especially on the very recent death of my mother. I couldn't have asked for more. I would recommend the home to anyone.
