Reviews

6.2 St Nicholas House has a Review Score of 6.2 (6.200)

The Review Score of 6.2 (maximum of 10) for St Nicholas House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 4 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for St Nicholas House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 1.6 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 2 years. (A 2 year period has been used as there were no positive reviews in the last 12 months)

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.636 for St Nicholas House is calculated as follows: ( (30 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 44 Ratings = 4.636

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 1.564 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Nicholas House is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 = 3 then divided by 2 = 1.500

    2. Target of 7.8 positive Reviews (39 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 1 Reviews ÷ 7.8 Target = 0.128 , then divided by 2 = 0.064

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

We visited my mother-in-law on a weekday morning. The care home is extremely well located and has a pleasant tidy garden and good access. The residents were enjoying their breakfast and the staff were very welcoming. Residents were happy and chatty and the atmosphere was lovely. It did not smell like a care home or hospital, it was homely. We liked the collages on the walls and the way the staff were interacting with residents - they were genuinely friendly and not patronising. I am happy that my mother-in-law is so well looked after and that she is staying in this care home.

Thank you for your lovely comments about St Nicholas House and the care your mother in law is receiving.

My mother went in to live at St Nicholas House in January 2014. She was initially in another place. Mum didn't really settle in well, staying mainly in her room, other than meal times. Upon moving into St Nicholas House she was instantly significantly happier. The entire staff - carers, office staff, kitchen staff were absolutely amazing. I often called at meal times and was extremely impressed with the meals provided. The cares were always very kind and patient with mum. She loved them all. She was always treated with dignity. We only ever had an issue with the laundry system but that improved recently. I could not praise the place highly enough.

Thank you for your lovely feedback about St Nicholas House.

What can I say, just a brilliant care home. They treated my dad extremely well as if one of their relatives. All staff were happy and did their utmost for my dad. We went to the home twice a week and nothing was ever an issue, or there were concerns. Treated as individual. One of the carers came to visit dad in hospital twice in his last days on this planet. Highly recommended for your loved ones!

My mother has been a resident at St Nicholas House since June 2014 as a result of frailness and reduced mobility. Care facilities were good to excellent with positive and helpful attitude of the home was exceptional and my mothers experience of residential care was very positive. My mother has increasing nursing needs and the home has tried to meet them within the limits of the resources that are available. My mother now receives end of life care. I talk to both other residents and staff and my overall impression of St Nicholas House is positive as it's reputation in the general community.
