I am very happy with my mother's care at St Nicholas House. All Staff are friendly and helpful and work very hard to ensure the residents have the best care. The food is varied and well presented. Mother prefers to stay in her room, rather than go to the lounge, as she does not watch TV. Management are always approachable if I wish to discuss anything .Always made to feel welcome when visiting. The home has a relaxed atmosphere and the garden is lovely to sit out in summer.

I have always been happy with my sisters care and she seems happy with how she is looked after by the staff.
I always find the staff helpful and they are in contact with myself when ever necessary. My sister has now been in St Nicholas House ten years this month and well looked after. We feel she is I safe hands and friendly hands.

Full time resident. Staff have been very supportive and considerate of his severe anxiety. He is helped to wash and dress. A good assortment of dietary needs. Staff are all very thoughtful and know that he can take a second to reply.

He is very happy to be able to watch the wildlife in the garden.

Mum has been a resident for over 5 years and is late stage dementia. The dementia unit is very small so this means mum has one to one care which is brillant. The staff are friendly and welcoming. My main issue is with the laundry. I understand all the clothes get washed together and things get muddled but everything is named. On my last visit I checked mums things there was a vest that wasn't hers & it was digusting and I wouldn't use it to wash my floor with. Another occasion mum had no nighties I asked what will happen tonight & was told we will look around & find her something. Mum has already lost all her dignity & I don't want her wearing other people's clothes!

From the moment I walked in I knew mum would like it- the staff were so helpful and kind. I read the reviews that were old and didn't sound good! I would say go take a look- it's a gut feeling to know if your loved one will be cared for. Moving mum here from another care home 5* reviews!! Well I wouldn't give it 2* there's no comparison. Mum and I are so happy, well done to the staff who make it a great care home.

My mother has been at St. Nicholas for a year and I can honestly say that her care has been first-class.
The manager and her dedicated staff have been very helpful and supportive at a time which at times has been quite stressful for my family.

Thank you.

I wanted to comment on the way staff really go the extra mile at St Nicholas House. There is a wonderful fishpond in the garden which required some cleaning. The pond is funded and managed through fundraising. Funds would be stretched by professional pond cleaners, so the manager and two staff members volunteered to clean the pond, which looked great after their hard work. I think this sums up the dedication of the manager and staff team to the quality of the residents' life experience, as so many residents and visitors enjoy watching the fish. A huge thank you for their hard work.

I can say the care home is the next best thing to home. Management is forward-thinking and proactive. I am reassured that the staff acts in Mum's best interest. The care home staff have been excellent. Mum has her ups and downs, but the manager has great insight into Mum's needs. A good manager leads their staff well, and this is truly evident. Also, the home has always been honest and transparent, which is to the mangers credit. I know my mum feels safe here, and that is priceless.

St Nicholas House care home is very welcoming and caring. All staff are keen to ensure standards are maintained. Respect/privacy/dignity is acknowledged at all times. A peaceful environment throughout, and although very busy at times, the care never falters.

In April, my aunt passed away at St Nicholas House. She was 96 and had spent her last few years as a resident in the Dementia unit.
My mother, brother and myself were overwhelmed by the wonderful care she received in her final years.
The staff at the home are outstanding.
So well trained.
The home has a brilliant management team.
The care staff, front of office, catering staff, cleaning staff, and anyone else I've failed to mention are all so professional.
The group care should be very proud of the team at St Nicholas House.

Thank you for caring for our aunt and making her last few years safe and comfortable.

Since my dad came to the home in October 2021, he and us have always been treated with respect, and every member of staff is friendly and always keeps us informed of anything we need to know. Dad has settled in really well after being on his own for a couple of years, he feels safe knowing that if he needs anything then someone is nearby to lend a hand.

The staff that work at St Nicholas House are fantastic, dedicated and well trained. My father is currently residing there and never has any complaints whatsoever. I ask him regularly, and he always tells me he is treated with respect and dignity. The facilities are good, clean and today. The food is excellent, and Dad enjoys the meals.

I have been a resident since May this year. Having been living on my own for so long, I was very independent and set in my ways and found it very difficult to adjust. I was somewhat unhappy and frustrated at first, and surprisingly, easily upset. Throughout this settling in period, the staff were kind, considerate and understanding of my needs. I am happy to say that I am much more settled and have adapted to life in the home. The only downside at the moment is the lack of activities and social contact permitted due to the restrictions imposed by Covid. Hopefully, these will change in the future.

My mother has been a resident of St Nicholas House since May 2020. With her diagnosis of Alzheimer's, she was struggling to understand the restrictions of the Covid pandemic at home, and so, she initially went into St Nicholas House for temporary respite care but has remained there ever since. Because of the pandemic, I had not had the opportunity to visit local homes and decide the best one for her needs. I relied on the advice of community mental health support and reviews, such as this, on the website. What I found at St Nicholas House was an absolute gem of a care home right in the centre of town. I could not be more pleased with the care my mother receives. She is in a safe, happy environment and has established strong bonds with the amazing staff. They understand her changing needs, and nothing is ever too much trouble.

From the moment my relative became a resident, he was made very comfortable, welcome, safe and cared for. We, as his family, were equally made to feel welcome. Staff were very accommodating and did everything they could, given the restrictions in place. They often went the extra mile by getting items for him that he liked. Spending time with him if he was low, lonely or even grumpy. Being extremely patient with him when he was being difficult, displaying kindness and caring. Staff are always available to answer questions from us and there to reassure us. We couldn't have wished for a better place for him to spend his last few months, so much so that at his funeral, a collection was taken for the staff. This is to be used by the staff however they wish to do so, a meal, takeaway, drinks, to say a huge thank you for doing all that you do. We, as a family, would definitely recommend St Nicholas House.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

My stepmother-in-law of 102 years of age moved into St Nicholas House in 2015. The care, consideration and tolerance by the staff is beyond me. We visit every seven to ten days and after two hours we are exhausted, but the staff is always nearby and try to please her needs and ours. They are such a cheerful crowd.
I went to their Fete for the first time this year and was so surprised to see ALL the staff turn up and amazed as to how many locals from Dereham came and supported the home, it was a joy to see.
Also, the staff that finished at 2pm went home, then came back with their family to join in with the activities.
So rare to see today how devoted they are to the care home.

My stepmother-in-law is still with us, now of 105 years of age.

When I first left school, I knew that care was my vocation. I have worked in the care sector for many years and started with NorseCare in 2004. I have always found the job fulfilling and have built good relationships with both residents and their families,

giving the best care possible.

I moved to St Nicholas House in 2015 as Deputy Manager. We have an excellent team and I am always encouraging and supporting staff with new ways of working. I am now embracing the opportunity of being the Manager.

I pride myself on providing person centred care and am passionate about all the residents I support. Seeing them each day, smiling and chatting with staff and other residents in an environment that feels like home is the best reward of the role.
