Overview

The Review Score of 9.2 (maximum of 10) for Ashbourne House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 8 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Ashbourne House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.156 for Ashbourne House is calculated as follows: ( (34 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (19 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.156

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashbourne House is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 3.4 positive Reviews (17 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 5 Reviews ÷ 3.4 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

9.2 Ashbourne House has a Review Score of 9.2 (9.156) from 8 Reviews

I am very pleased with and impressed by the working practices of the polite and amenable staff at Ashbourne House. Nothing for them appears to be too much trouble and the standard of care is particularly high. There is a warm communal/family feel at the home, mixed with plenty of humour and lots of kindness.
It is also immediately apparent that the manager is liked and respected by her staff. She seems very intuitive and experienced and just this alone gives me a feeling of reassurance that my mother is in safe hands. Interestingly, the staff encourage relatives to share with them stories, photographs and significant highlights of the residents' lives.
This enables them to build up a strong biographical picture of those in their care in order to provide them with an aid during conversations with them and to reassure when necessary.
Residents have a good and varied menu of food to choose from and all medication is stringently checked, regulated and administered. Notably, the local medical community team is always readily and speedily available which again inspires confidence.
This structure and the general ethos I believe helps in setting an excellent example to the younger/trainee carers who seem happy working in the home's lighthearted and congenial atmosphere. I am confident that, due in part to the commendably low staff turnover, they will carry forward the effortless yet effective manner within Ashbourne House for many years to come.

My father-in-law has been in Ashbourne House for the last five months.
In that time the staff have been very caring and attentive to him.
This has given the family great peace of mind.

Building, facilities, staff, care, food - just as I would want it in a residential home for the elderly.

My mother-in-law is in Ashbourne House for respite due to my father-in-law being taken very seriously ill. When entering for the first time she knew it was where she wanted to be. The staff are all so welcoming and kind and cannot do enough for you, they immediately make you feel at ease with what seemed such a daunting process. The home doesn't appear clinical, it really is home from home with all the staff so lovely and caring. Nothing is too much trouble and my mother-in-law is being so well looked after at this really difficult time, we couldn't wish for better, thank you so much to all the staff.

We looked at several care homes for mum and were disappointed by what seemed to us cheerless places more like institutions. As soon as I walked into Ashbourne House I was aware of a happy, friendly atmosphere home from home is how I would best describe it. Mum has lived there for nearly three years now, suffers from dementia and she has always been treated with great care and respect. She is happy there and the staff certainly go 'the extra mile' and more.

Staff are very personable and attentive. Mum seems very happy and content. House is very clean and a pleasure to visit. Plenty of activities and residents feeling free to move around at leisure.
