Bishopsteignton House is a Grade II listed, 27-bed residence overlooking the Devon moors and is one of the most admired and sought-after homes in the region. With an excellent reputation and strong demand from private clients, the home combines timeless elegance with warm, person-centred care.

From the moment visitors step inside, they are welcomed by fresh flowers in the light-filled conservatory, setting the tone for the home’s calm and inviting atmosphere. This much-loved area offers residents a place to relax, socialise, or watch daily life unfold, with staff always nearby to provide support when needed.

Set within an acre of beautifully maintained grounds, Bishopsteignton House is surrounded by rolling moorland and countryside views. These can be enjoyed from the home’s large period windows or during outdoor strolls.

While rich in heritage and character, the home is fully equipped to support modern living. High-quality residential care is provided with a strong focus on independence, dignity, and wellbeing, alongside reassurance that additional support is available as needs change. The experienced team recognises that every resident’s journey is unique and offers personalised care.

Dad came to Bishopsteignton House 5 years ago, and I can honestly say it gave him a new lease of life. He was beautifully looked after and cared for with real love and warmth, and it was wonderful to see him flourishing in an environment where he was genuinely appreciated. He was able to take part in
so many different activities and outings, and the team are endlessly resourceful and creative in what they provide for residents. The house itself is beautiful, the facilities top-notch, and Dad was a very big fan of the delicious food! At the time it felt like an enormous and risky decision to move him down here from East Anglia where he had lived all his life, but we were so lucky to find Bishopsteignton House, and are grateful every day for the way they welcomed Dad into their community and looked after him. Enormous thanks to the whole team for everything they did for him, and for us as a family.

My sister-in-law has been living at Bishopsteignton House for the past 2years and 6 months. I can honestly say, my partner and I are more than happy at the the quality if care that my sister-in-law receives. My sister-in-law can be very difficult at times, but the staff are so patient with her and understanding
Both my partner and I are Power of Attorney for my sister-in-law's Health and Financial matters. They always keep us informed all my sister-in-law's updates. We are very impressed with Bishopsteignton House. Thank you to the manager and all the staff.

Mum moved in here 2 months ago. When I arrived to look round, someone else's son arrived very soon after. He went out of his way to tell me that his Mum came for respite care 6 months before, and liked it so much she was now a permanent resident. Last time I visited Mum, this week, likewise I said to
someone looking round that they could find nowhere better for their relation. It is wonderful. I felt very conflicted about "putting Mum in a home" but this really is a home where you are cared for. She is so much happier here than when living with us. The building is great - so easy for the residents to socialise. The restaurant is just that. It is not a canteen! The home is south facing with views to the River Teign estuary. The food is good. Best, the staff are superb, kind patient and caring. There are lots of activities - something every day. This is not warehousing people but a place of genuine happiness. Facebook updates are great and frequent. I cannot recommend highly enough!

My mother passed away at the home very recently after living there for 2 years. I couldn't think of a nicer place for her to spend her last days. The care from the staff was exceptional at all times. Everyone who came in contact with her and the family was caring and considerate. I can't thank them
enough.

I visit my friend's nan here that I've been close to for many years. You can tell by how happy she is that the staff at the home are very caring and friendly. The home is always clean and tidy and there is always a good variety of activities for them to do which I have partaken in a few times.
The
wide range of meals available is also to a very high standard.
I really enjoy coming in to see her once a fortnight.

My nan is a resident at Bishopsteignton House. The first impression I got when she first moved in was how clean the home was and how welcoming everyone is. I can't thank the manager and deputy manager for making my nan feel so welcome. The room she has is modern and clean. We have been able to make
her room feel her home. The food is brilliant and always has a selection of foods available and nothing is too much trouble for the kitchen. My nan enjoys the wide range of activities which are on offer and they are always willing to try new ideas.

First impressions of the care home from the outside are good with a view across the Teign river from a lovely garden. The inside is welcoming and spacious with a friendly atmosphere. Staff are nearby and within sight so they help residents quickly and answer questions from visitors. Activities are varied,
including crafts, singing and dog visits. Care needs are reviewed monthly and delivered by staff with genuine loving care. I always felt my aunt was in good hands and wish she could have gone there sooner.

My husband attends Bishopsteignton House twice a week.
The staff are very helpful and polite. They spend time with him to motivate him and encourage other patients to help him. He will often say the staff will help as well.
I can take him to Bishopsteignton House and I know he's made to feel very
welcome by the staff.

Bishopsteighton House is a home away from home, dad is very happy here. All the staff are so lovely, nothing is too much trouble. Dad's room is light and airy and very spacious and newly decorated. My mother has been in the home for six months now and has settled really well. The home is full of light and always lovely flowers and happy people. It is easy to visit and feel welcome anytime. My mother loves the staff and food. All the staff are friendly and have time to chat if needed. It is a very
homely feel. Meal times, everybody sits together and has lovely serviettes and flowers on the tables. Mum has been out late a few times and the night staff are wonderful and happy to make her a drink if she is not ready for bed. I feel she is very safe and surrounded by love.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.996) out of 10 for Bishopsteignton House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.996 for Bishopsteignton House is calculated as follows: ( (251 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 252 Ratings = 4.996
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bishopsteignton House is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
