We are sorry that the person that wrote this review feels this way about the care his mother received. We do provide care to people with dementia but sometimes the needs of a person with any type of dementia can alter quickly and without warning. We do involve other professionals when this happens as was the case here. We have to consider whether or not we can meet the specialist needs that can arise from some advanced dementias. We do our best to do so but where behaviours require specialist care we recognise that these needs can be better provided for in a more specialist unit that caters mainly for people with similar conditions as we also have to consider the impact that one person’s specific behaviour can have on other residents as we have a duty of care to all in our home. We do recognise that any decision such as this is always a difficult and emotive one for all parties but we do feel that we did all we could to facilitate the resident whist she was in our care in all areas including treating her with dignity, inviting her to join in the daily activities and we personally feel that our facilities and management are in good order as can be evidenced by others written comments.

We are delighted to know that you are very happy with the care that your grandmother receives and that you feel our staff are caring and courteous. We always strive to provide good care in a safe and welcoming environment for all of our residents and therefore it is lovely for our staff to know that people do consider them to be a big part of their lives and trust them to look after them.

Dear Tim
Thank you very much for taking the time to fill in and return the recommendation form. It is lovely for us to know that you are happy with the care that your mum is receiving whilst living at Puddavine Court. Please have a chat with the home's manager regarding mum being able to sit outside alone in the court yard but as far as I know residents are able to do this. The memory room is for everyone to enjoy sitting in and I love seeing it used. Thank you - Nikki Rogers, Director.

I can't say any home would be good enough for where you want your mum but Puddavine was spotless, the food good and the care fantastic and they made a horrible time of our lives much easier for us.

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.422) out of 10 for Puddavine Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.
The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.
The Average Rating of 4.366 for Puddavine Court is calculated as follows: ( (46 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.366
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').
The 4.056 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Puddavine Court is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 9 = 0.556
When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Manager
Joined: 2021
For the last 25 years I've been a Registered Care Manager, 14 of which, with the Devon Care Group. I have worked at 4 DCG homes, ranging from a small 24 bedded home a nursing home and now to one of the bigger homes with 45 beds. I have gained a lot of experience over this time and understand the importance of having a caring and strong team. I like to work with young carers to bring the future managers through so good care continues and to show how rewarding the job is. I've always been passionate about people being cared for in a way that brings out the best in them.
Job Title: Deputy Manager
Joined: 2022
I am currently returning to my role as Deputy Manager at Puddavine court, as I have been off on maternity leave since March 2024. I have been working as Deputy Manager at Puddavine for the last 2 years. I am 29 years young and have over 10 years of experience working within the residential care setting. I actually started my career as a carer within Devon Care Group all those years ago and I haven’t looked back since! I have always had a passion for caring and making a positive difference in people’s lives.
Job Title: Deputy Manager / Senior HCA
Joined: 2020
I have been a Senior carer for a few years now. I love running my shift to the best of my capabilities, but it is made all that much easier with the good team of carers we have. There are many aspects to our roles, but Palliative Care is something that I am passionate about and feel that it is a real privilege to care for someone at this time of their lives. It is lovely to be able to pass down knowledge gained along my way to the team that share this interest also. Away from work I am kept busy with my pets and family members, I like to relax with a good book or gardening weather permitting!
