The Review Score of 8.6 (maximum of 10) for Abbeyfield Shandford is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 5 out of 5 from 2 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Abbeyfield Shandford in Google's Search Results - more info
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.
The Average Rating of 4.958 for Abbeyfield Shandford is calculated as follows: ( (23 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.958
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.
1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.
If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.
The 3.635 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbeyfield Shandford is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:
3 + 0.25 = 3.25
Target of 5.2 positive Reviews (26 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 2 Reviews ÷ 5.2 Target = 0.385

Dad loves living at Abbeyfield Shandford. Aged 93, he received a new lease of life here. He'd been reluctant to relinquish his "independence" but the crunch came and dad moved to Abbeyfield Shandford. The manager was incredibly helpful in facilitating his move, having checked that she understood dad's many needs and was confident in meeting them. The welcome dad and I received was heart-warming - I knew this was the right home! The care team made a real effort getting to know dad as a person, not just his care needs - the father, provider, thespian, gardener and comic that lies within the aged cladding. The care team spend time with dad, popping in, rather than passing by his room; taking him to the lounge to enjoy the varied entertainment; on regular community trips out and outside to sit in the sunshine in the lovely gardens. Dad even enjoys a bit of wheelchair gardening. And they gently meet all his slowly increasing personal needs, treating him with dignity. New life for dad and peace of mind for me!

Abbeyfield Shandford really feels like a home and the staff are very polite, kind and caring. Since moving here in September last year my father has been in good health both physically and mentally. He enjoys the friendly community life here. There are regular coffee mornings and quizzes as well as trips out - usually monthly but sometimes twice a month. Shandford has a lovely, warm and peaceful atmosphere. The rooms look clean and tidy and the residents all seem to be well looked after and in good spirits. The staff seem to be proud of their care home and the recently redecorated dining and communal area gives both residents and visitors a beautiful and very comfortable, light and airy room in which to spend time together and enjoy the variety of activities on offer. Many rooms, including the communal room, have views of the well kept, sheltered garden which is a real pleasure to look at and be in on a fine sunny day. I would highly recommend Abbeyfield Shandford.
