Overview

The Review Score of 8.9 (maximum of 10) for Castle Hill House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 6 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Castle Hill House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.493 for Castle Hill House is calculated as follows: ( (37 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.493

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.417 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Castle Hill House is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.75

    2. Target of 6 positive Reviews (30 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 4 Reviews ÷ 6 Target = 0.667

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

8.9 Castle Hill House has a Review Score of 8.9 (8.910) from 6 Reviews

I have lived in Shaftesbury for 30 years and on many occasions walked past Castle Hill House and The Cedars with no idea of the wonderful care these homes provide.
My father, after 4 years of dementia, went to live at Castle Hill House. We were apprehensive at first and feeling very guilty that we could not care for him at home any longer, but the level of 24-hour care he received and the welcome and support my mother and I were given was superb.
As his condition worsened he needed more nursing care and was transferred to The Cedars. He was given a ground floor room close to the sitting room where he settled in well.
On Monday 26th February my dear father passed away. The ‘end of life’ care he received was so respectful and full of kindness. As a family, we were given the same.
In a small town, we are blessed to have these nursing homes for our community.
If you see a poster for a coffee morning at Castle Hill House or The Cedars please pop in and support these wonderful homes.

Castle Hill is always welcoming and there are lots of staff in with the residents at all times. There is the main large lounge/.dining room but also a garden room which is used all year round and a quiet room which is nice to sit and chat in with my friend.
The staff are always helpful. An excellent home which is a pleasure to visit.

My father is always clean and well presented when I have been present at meal times, the food always looks very good, he enjoys the meals immensely.
The staff are always helpful and are able to update you on his current position and if they are unable to for example just come on shift, they will find out for you.

A very caring home for people with advanced dementia. Not so good for early dementia cases.

My father went into Castle Hill House in April 2016 and the care he has received has been very good.
The staff are very caring and helpful.
He seems to enjoy the food, and if there are any problems as he has had several falls the staff let us know straight away.

After a respite break at Castle Hill, we felt confident that this was the right permanent home for Dad as his dementia became more advanced.
Castle Hill is safe, homely and friendly and the staff are always welcoming. Meals are freshly-cooked and varied, there are plenty of activities for residents and a secure, specially-designed garden. Dad also enjoyed his trips out, whether into town by wheelchair or further afield by minibus. The carers are dedicated, well-trained and friendly and with Castle Hill being a small home, they are able to get to know each resident and their needs well.
During Dad's final days and nights, I saw a great deal more of life at Castle Hill. The staff went out of their way to make Dad comfortable and support us aswell. We witnessed the kindness and care given to other residents both day and night and the hard work of the behind-the-scenes staff.
Again, we send our thanks to all at Castle Hill for their support and the excellent care given to my dad.
