Reviews

9.7 Sceats Care Home has a Review Score of 9.7 (9.653)

The Review Score of 9.7 (maximum of 10) for Sceats Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 6 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Sceats Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.653 for Sceats Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (49 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.653

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sceats Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 6 positive Reviews (30 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 6 Reviews ÷ 6 Target = 1.000

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

The most important aspect of a care home is that Mum is safe, secure and well looked after. We have great peace of mind knowing that that’s what Sceats offer.
Their care is attentive and proactive (very good at spotting medical problems and contacting relevant agencies quickly).
Food always smells nice and care is taken to give Mum choice over what she’d like to eat.
All in all the management team are doing their best to offer a homely life at Sceats rather than just an institutionalised existence.

Mum moved into Sceats in May 2017 and settled very quickly. She now refers to Sceats as her home and the staff and carers as her "Sceats family". We could not have chosen better. All the staff really do care about the residents and their quality of life.

My mother has been resident at Sceats since May 2015. There was a period in early 2016 when we were concerned about the standards and ethos of the home, but since Mum seemed settled, we were reluctant to move her. Following the appointment of the current manager, these concerns have evaporated and we are very pleased that she has remained there.
The level of staffing is fully adequate to the residents' needs and a range of activities is provided, although my mother chooses to watch rather than partake.
The staff are approachable and caring, being willing to talk to us whenever we arrive. Living a long way away, it is comforting to us that she is being properly cared for and although she suffers from dementia and is in her mid 90s her physical health has visibly improved since she has been there.

When I came to Sceats in December 2016 it was for a few weeks respite which was badly needed after a prolonged spell of illness.
The staff made me very welcome, I found it very hard to mix at first and preferred to stay in my room. The staff were very respectful of my wishes and were happy for me to have my meals in my room until I felt able to be in the dining room.
It is good to have male and female staff who are professional but friendly and their mixed personalities make each day different.
Sceats is a very comfortable and homely place. It has taken me 6 months to realise I could not manage at home on my own anymore and am very happy to now be a permanent resident. There are improvements being made every week and we are now enjoying some varied activities.
Sceats is a peaceful, caring and restful place to be, like a unit of love. I am very well looked after with companionship and no worries.

Having become a volunteer at Sceats I have learnt so much and understand a lot more about this type of work.
It is such a lovely place and has a very homely atmosphere.
Both the residents and the staff are amazing.
Everyone works very hard and despite how stressful it can get everyone always does their best and keeps a cool head about all situations.

Our aunt has been a resident since December 2016, she had been very depressed and anxious for some time and was in need of a few weeks respite. Sceats has proved to be a place of love and comfort, nothing is to much trouble. The staff have been extremely supportive to both our aunt and us, always available to chat any worries through. Sceats is a home from home, very much 'a home that cares' rather than a care home. Aunty has now decided to make this her permanent home. She has made several friends and is a more settled person because of the care, companionship and supportive community there. The home cooked meals are well thought out and we are able to eat with her and enjoy the social activity of sharing a meal. We can't thank the staff, male and female carers, and management enough for providing a welcoming and loving environment for elderly people to live in, safe, secure and treated with dignity.
