Review from L G (Friend of Resident) published on 30 April 2025 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Our friend was admitted to Russell Court in November 2024 directly from Russell's Hall Hospital, after suffering a bleed on the brain.

She improved enormously during the five months that she was a resident there, where she received care and encouragement from the physio team, occupational therapist and nursing staff - headed up by a particular member of staff, who was always happy to answer questions and concerns.

Admin made sure that our friend's husband was cared for too when he was visiting. The new lady took over as manager during 'our' time there, and made a significant difference. She was also a great sounding board when we were looking at the way forward, or had any specific worries. She was a star!

Our friend has moved to a home which is more convenient for her husband to visit, but we were all sad to leave Russell Court behind!

I have given four stars rather than five, as the fabric of the building needs some attention, and the rooms are not very generous in size.

Reply from Claire Logan, Registered Manager at Russell Court

I went to see my husband nearly every day at the care home. The people I met were very nice and very good. The physios got him walking along to corridor and he managed to get to the toilet with help from a carer and his walker. When he returned home after 6 weeks, he had improved and was able to walk to the toilet with the help of a carer and myself. He has not had to use the commode.

My time at Russells Court (although for health reasons) was like being in a family hotel.
I could not have asked for better care and support. It is only due to the staff and physios that I was back on my feet after just under 4 weeks. Thank you.
The management played a big role in this by keeping me informed and providing transport to my hospital visits.

I will be forever grateful to everyone for helping me through a painful time. Thank you.

I would like to express my sincerest thanks for the care of my brother. He was admitted to Russell Court in August 2024 with terminal cancer, and he spent the last six months of his life there. He was treated with respect, and his welfare was carefully assessed, and his care administered by considerate and competent care assistants and medical personnel who liaised with the Palliative team. It is a comfort and blessing to me that he was kept as comfortable as possible to the end, and he passed away peacefully in his sleep.

Reply from Fiona Brewin, Manager at Russell Court

The care team at Maple Wing was excellent. Her room was really good and the cleaning staff were first class. All of the staff we encountered were pleasant and helpful. The nursing team was really good.

There is a nice day room downstairs but it is under-utilised and patients are not encouraged to use it. The specialist podiatry team was only available for diabetic patients. This was a real shortcoming and resulted in Mum leaving with an infected foot ulcer.

All the staff are wonderful, caring and always smiling. My rehab is going well, physios are doing a great job for me. The food is excellent, they have accommodated my dietary needs as I have had bariatric surgery and can only eat pureed food and no dairy at all. It will be a sad day when I leave but a great day as next stop is back home. I cannot thank all here at Russell's Court for the care, help, and rehab I have received.

My mother spent 6 weeks of rehabilitation here. She was treated with care and utmost dignity.
As a relative visiting I was always welcomed with a smile and greeted with warmth by all staff.
The decor was a little tired and a fresh lack of paint was due soon I would have thought, but the most important thing was the care which was excellent.
We were also allowed to bring the family dog in - excellent.

Other care homes I have visited.

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us feedback. This is a lovely review and is greatly appreciated regarding the standard of care received. The decor throughout the home is refreshed at differing periods throughout the year, to ensure full refresh during the year. I can confirm corridor areas and some bedrooms are due to be refreshed during the final quarter of 2024.

All the staff were kind, attentive and helpful. They often went above and beyond what was asked of them. They were always cheerful. However, some of the night staff could be abrupt and over-vigorous in handling.
