Overview

The Review Score of 9.2 (maximum of 10) for Haversham House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 17 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Haversham House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.338 for Haversham House is calculated as follows: ( (97 Excellents x 5) + (73 Goods x 4) + (26 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 198 Ratings = 4.338

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.909 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Haversham House is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 11 positive Reviews (55 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 10 Reviews ÷ 11 Target = 0.909

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

9.2 Haversham House has a Review Score of 9.2 (9.247) from 17 Reviews

My mother went into Haversham House in February 2018 and from the start, the home and staff have been excellent listening to mothers wishes and keep the family informed throughout. Food is good and the staff always speak and have time to chat.

This was a traumatic emergency admission. Staff were very attentive and compassionate.
The environment, however, needs improvement.
No en-suite. Staff didn't encourage Dad to shower - we had to ask.
Dad is grossly constipated. This should be monitored.
I'm aware that it's residential, not nursing, but these are basic needs.
Also, Dad became incontinent of urine overnight. This is new.
I'd recommend staff ask basic questions on admission re; continence, bowels, habits, dietary input, communication needs.

My mother moved into Haversham House 2 months ago, we visited many care home before choosing this one. I would rate the overall care as excellent and I'm particularly impressed by the staff. My mother is very happy and really enjoys the meals and snacks. I'd make one improvement, the stairs are not protected by safety gates and are a risk to mobile residents who are inclined to wander - such as my mother.

Current staff are helpful and understanding with myself and Mum (resident). I feel that improvements could be made in the areas of activities to include more of the residents more regularly and updating family on what your family member has been doing. Also, the resident's room could be improved (colour scheme). I feel that feedback from staff could be much improved so we are informed what activities they have been involved in and this would be helpful when visiting as you would have talking points, staff respond to requests for information regarding, this, but the system could be more proactive.

philip morris, director at Haversham House responded to this review on 05 Dec 2017:

We would like to thank you kindly for taking out the time to review Haversham House.
We encourage regular Relatives meetings on which the information of the confirmed dates and times are available on our monthly Newsletter that is emailed out to family/friends who have kindly provided their email address to us for updates, along with a paper view copy of the Newsletter available in the Reception area.
On our planned residents/relatives meetings which are shown on previous Newsletters we have encouraged our residents and their support networks to support their loved one's with a more personalised environment for their own private facilities.

As a home we provide a neutral décor, but if families/ relatives and the resident in question would like their room decorating in a certain way we are always happy to carry out the maintenance works to make their wishes happen.

Very pleased with the care. I visit my mum twice a week. Mum is quiet but always watching the goings on. Staff are very caring. There is a homely atmosphere here. I have no issues with the care.

The care and understanding shown by the management and indeed all the staff, not only towards the patients but also the relatives, is outstanding.
The immediate and efficient way my sister's medical and behavioural needs have been met is remarkable and much appreciated.

My mum has been in Haversham House for 3 months. All the staff are absolutely lovely with her regardless of her behaviour. After 3 months she has settled down well and I believe this has a lot to do with the care and understanding she is receiving. The management are very "hands on" too. They are very approachable and nothing is too much trouble. I am extremely happy with the care mum is receiving.

Recent improvements have made a vast difference to both residents and visitors. The care received from the staff is first class - they will do anything for the comfort and welfare of the residents. The atmosphere is one of happiness and comfort, which is appreciated by everyone.

My dad always praises the staff and home for the welfare he receives. He loves being with friends, he appreciates all the regular contact he has with staff and he enjoys the food so much I keep on having to buy him bigger trousers. From my viewpoint, the staff show genuine concern and commitment to the residents. The home is clean and there is a professional approach towards meeting the physical, social and emotional needs of the residents.

Good home when fully staffed. Clean, most staff are friendly. Meetings for family and friends are at night, cannot go as myself and my sister use public transport and they do not run at night and it is too far in a taxi. If paramedics have been called they let me know.

We find the staff caring and friendly but some staff need to bring themselves up to speed with the resident's needs and situation. A resident has two pairs of glasses distance and reading but I frequently find the resident with the wrong glasses on, usually wearing reading glasses. If the staff purport to know the resident then they should know whether the resident is wearing the correct pair.

Philip Morris, Director at Haversham House responded to this review on 10 Apr 2017:

We apologise for any distress this may have caused, unfortunately, it can be difficult to distinguish the difference between distance and reading glasses as many frames can be of similar style. On looking at the feedback that we were given regarding the optician's service from both residents, relatives and staff, we have decided to change our opticians choice.

Our new optician offers different frames for distance and reading to help service users and staff to distinguish frames, they will also provide a distinctive different coloured band around the arm of the frame of glasses to help service users and staff identify the difference between the two.

The new service will come into place as of June 2017 when the majority of our service users are due their next optician's review, we hope this will help to reduce the re-occurrence of this in the future.

My father was discharged from hospital following a very serious illness. He has lived at the home for 2 1/2 years. Within minutes of arriving back "home" as he calls it, he was smiling after one week. Thanks to the wonderful care he is feeding himself, walking with support from the amazing girls, drinking from a cup, not a beaker, smiling, happy, well dressed and shaved. I cannot thank the amazing people who care for my father enough, they support me as well as look after my dad. We are part of a wonderful family at Haversham House.

My father has recently became a resident at this care home and I have seen him being made welcome, his needs being met by caring staff and he has made this change without distress. I think this shows that the staff are considering his requirements both physically and emotionally and dealing with them appropriately. Visitors from the family and friends have also commented about how settled he seems.
