Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.
1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. Review submitted from a Website Submission by Keith (Son-in-law of Resident) on Sunday 23 August 2015. Relates to April 2015.
My wife and I visited several care homes when her mother passed away in May 2014. We found Beechwood House which was close to our home in Hadfield and had a room available.
As soon as we entered Beechwood House we were met by friendly and caring staff who made it their business to welcome people and help them feel "at home." We had no doubt that this was the place for my father-in-law to live as soon as we had been shown around. Suffering from Alzheimer's and unable to look after himself alone, he had lived a peaceful and quite sheltered life looking after his wife in their latter years.
At first he found the new situation confusing, but what was so good at Beechwood was the lack of regimentation. Residents are always encouraged to be themselves - getting up in a morning and going to bed at night at a time which they prefer rather than having a set routine.
It was very clear from the start that we had made an excellent choice for him. The staff were wonderful - showing care and consideration at all times - nothing was too much trouble. When my father-in-law received visits - which was usually daily - the very first question from a member of staff was "Would you like a tea or coffee?" which would be brought with a smile and - if the member of staff had time - a chat.
Sadly he passed away soon after Easter 2015. We had discussed as a family how his end of life care would be handled and these wishes were shared with the Manager at Beechwood. We arranged with my father-in-law's GP to have in place a DNR arrangement - and their wishes were followed by staff when the time came a few days later.
Beechwood House is a small care home with no more than 10 residents. Staff are caring and thorough. There are no unpleasant smells or elements at the home. Our family feel privileged to have been able to help my father-in-law spend his last months at such a lovely caring place.
