My father was cared for with dignity, compassion and kindness. All the staff, including kitchen and cleaning staff, were polite, helpful and friendly. They knew my name, helped me gain access to the home (I'm a wheelchair user) and always offered me a cup of tea.

They made great efforts to get to

know my lovely Dad and they saw the man before Alzheimer's overtook him. They spoke kindly to him, checked on him regularly and ensured he was clean and comfortable. I felt that they never patronised him and that they "cared" about his welfare and happiness, over and above their formal duties.

The medical staff kept him as well as he could be, in the circumstances, and kept myself, my brother and sister fully informed of changes in his general health and the progress of the Alzheimer's as it worsened. Their end of life care was considerate, tender and helped him die surrounded by kindness and calm. I believe Dad was not frightened in the weeks leading up to his death. I applaud them all.

Reply from Ash Piddington-Smith, Registered Manager at Syne Hills Care HomeThank you so much for your deeply moving and generous words. It means a great deal to everyone at Syne Hills to know that your father was cared for with dignity, kindness and compassion.
We are truly touched that you felt Dad was seen as the person he was, beyond his Alzheimer's, and that you and your family felt supported and kept informed throughout his time with us. Providing comfort, respect and reassurance, especially during end of life care, is something we hold very close to our hearts.
Your recognition of the whole team, including care, medical, kitchen and housekeeping staff, will mean so much to them. It was a privilege to care for your father, and we are grateful that you trusted us during such an important and emotional time.
With sincere condolences and warmest wishes to you and your family.

I was surprised to learn that meals are not made from scratch but are bought in. Otherwise I have nothing to fault my mum is happy there she is safe and gets 24 hours care which I could no longer give her owing to Alzheimer's.
Reply from Ash Piddington-Smith, Registered Manager at Syne Hills Care HomeThank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback.
We are pleased to hear that your mum is happy, safe, and receiving the 24-hour care and support she needs. We understand how difficult it can be when a loved one requires more care than can be provided at home, especially when living with Alzheimer's, and we are grateful for the trust you have placed in us.
We also appreciate your comments regarding the meals. We understand this was a surprise, and your feedback has been noted. We always aim to ensure residents receive nutritious, enjoyable meals that meet their individual needs and preferences, and we will continue to review our catering arrangements to ensure the best possible experience for our residents.
Thank you again for your honest feedback and kind words about your mum's care.

The staff at Syne Hills made mum settle in quickly with their caring ways and their chats, they are really thoughtful and go the extra mile to make residents smile. They work very hard and are patient in a demanding job. I do think care home fees are very expensive.

Dad recently required to be seen by the paramedics, the staff always treat dad with dignity and respect taking his wishes into consideration which is particularly important when having to deal with medical professionals. My dad enjoys a banter with the staff and they relate well to his sense of humour.
Staff are always very friendly and welcoming.

I am very pleased with the care mum receives at Syne Hills. The staff work hard and are very friendly and approachable. The staff are really kind to mum and interact with her alot. This makes her feel valued and 'at home'. She has forged friendships with other residents and feels part of a family made
up of residents and staff.
It's a great shame, however, that the weekly trips out from Syne Hills appear to have ceased. The trips out were really enjoyed, and the change of scenery gave the resident's mental health a real boost.

My mother has now been at Syne Hills for eight months and I couldnt be happier with the service they provide for her. The Carers interaction with the residents is second to none. They not only care, they laugh and joke with the residents, keep them entertained and they love them as if they were their
own family. From art and crafts to bingo, musicians and choirs to summer fete's. Ive experienced it all at Synes Hills. I know my mother is in a wonderful place for her final years.

As a regular visitor to Syne Hills, I can say the level of care is second to none. It is more of an extended family feeling rather than an institution. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. The activities offered are varied, fun and plentiful. The meals are of good quality and the home is
always fresh and clean. A lovely home that I would highly recommend.

My mum came for the first time for 1 week, whilst my husband and I went to see the grandchildren. Because of a thorough pre-admission assessment, her room completely met her needs to be as independent as she can. Staff were just lovely and very caring without being condescending. Mum mentioned that
the food was good and again kitchen staff made sure she didn't miss out on pudding and gave sugar-free desserts. She had her hair done and went with a carer on a prebooked outing into town. The owner, also took mum on a different day to Winthorpe to see the sea which she was thrilled about. Apparently, she does this with all residents that can get in the car on top of more organised outings.
I noticed how well staffed the home was and staff seemed genuinely happy in their work, speaking highly of their employers, which is rare.
The home was spotless with good infection control measures. I met the housekeeper who was thorough and lovely.
Reply from Christopher Sweeney, Director at Syne Hills Care HomeThank you Rebecca for taking the time to let us have such valuable feedback. It is always such a boost to us all when we are told how our efforts can make such an anxious and often stressful time, pleasurable. We are delighted that Mum settled in and found everything to be just as we would like, safe, comfortable, remain independent, enjoying her time and food and of course being able to get out into Skegness (even if it was a little bit nippy!). We will look forward to seeing Mum again soon and so pleased that you were able to enjoy your break away! Thank you.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.489)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.489) out of 10 for Syne Hills Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.639 for Syne Hills Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (112 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 166 Ratings = 4.639
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Syne Hills Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
