School Street, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottingham NG17 7BT
Situated in the heart of the market town of Kirkby in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, and with easy access to road and rail, Loxley Lodge is surrounded by green spaces, with a conservation area close by. The home offers residential and dementia care.
The 42 rooms give generous space for residents, who are encouraged to personalise their environment with familiar pictures and photographs from home. The decoration was updated in 2015 and is light and bright throughout, with modern furnishings and fittings.
The home also benefits from communal areas, giving additional space in which residents can spend time with others, socialise and also meet their friends and family. The garden is always a popular spot in the warmer months and residents are encouraged to get hands-on and involved in keeping it looking bright and attractive.
Inside the home there is a small shop selling snacks, drinks and toiletries. There is also a tea room, which has a vintage theme, and is a peaceful space for families and residents.
Staff value the importance of offering residents an active and fulfilling day in the home, which is mainly led by a dedicated Activity Coordinator. They regularly welcome music groups and performers, in addition to engaging with the local community, such as schools and other groups. They have access to their own minibus and take residents out and about as often as possible, whether to the local shops or further away. We have recently introduced a small sensory room with lights and relaxing music full of tactile objects and various activities.
The home involves residents and their families as much as possible in the decisions within the home and provides excellent care for people who live with dementia.

The Review Score of 8.6 (maximum of 10) for Loxley Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 5 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Loxley Lodge in Google's Search Results - more info
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.
The Average Rating of 4.712 for Loxley Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (45 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 59 Ratings = 4.712
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.
1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.
If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.
The 3.857 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Loxley Lodge is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:
3 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.5
Target of 8.4 positive Reviews (42 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 3 Reviews ÷ 8.4 Target = 0.357

I have stayed at Loxley Lodge several times and always found it to be very good. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. The home is very clean and tastefully decorated. I like it because the Manager runs it efficiently but not regimentally. It is airy and always has lovely music playing. The staff are particularly good with residents who have dementia. They are patient in very difficult circumstances. The food is very healthy and plenty of it. The home takes care of people when they need it most.

I have seen the staff respond instantly to an emergency call.
The room is large and comfortable. I am very happy with the care Mom is getting at the home. Her meals are of good quality and Mom clears her plates at every meal.

Review submitted from a Postal Card by Christine A (Friend of Resident) on Wednesday 28 October 2015. Relates to October 2015.
My experience with Loxley Lodge is through very good friends. The husband being disabled has had respite there over the past few years. Recently his wife was critically ill and was on a fast track plan and had to move from hospital to a care home and I insisted she was with her husband for her last days. Loxley Lodge took her and the care and consideration they gave them both was excellent, not only for them but to her brother and myself. All the staff are very caring, considerate and very friendly. The rooms are exceptionally clean, bright and homely. I would have hesitation in recommending Loxley Lodge to anyone.
