The Review Score of 5.1 (maximum of 10) for St Helena's is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 3.5 out of 5 from 3 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for St Helena's in Google's Search Results - more info
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 1.6 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 2 years. (A 2 year period has been used as there were no positive reviews in the last 12 months)
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.
The Average Rating of 3.528 for St Helena's is calculated as follows: ( (10 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 3.528
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.
1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.
If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.
The 1.576 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Helena's is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:
3 = 3 then divided by 2 = 1.500
Target of 6.6 positive Reviews (33 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 1 Reviews ÷ 6.6 Target = 0.152 , then divided by 2 = 0.076
When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Appalling service when trying to deal with management. My mother was discharged without her wheelchair or walking frame. When I attended to collect, was informed that she did not have a wheelchair when she was admitted. I know this was not the case as I took her in. Was then advised there were no spare wheelchairs, yet was stood next to 2 - finally accepted that she did have a wheelchair but could not find hers and provided an older chair in its place. Only when I was able to supply the barcode did they locate the chair.
Have since called the home numerous times regarding the invoice, yet no return calls received.
Asked to speak to manager to be told as of 12/05/2017 they do not have a manager.
Asked to speak to the owner as listed on invoice provided to be told that she is not available on the number.
Have rated as extremely unlikely to recommend only as there is no option to select "would not under any circumstances recommend this care provider".

Joanne Parker, Administrator at St Helena's responded to this review on 31 May 2017:
On discharge of this lady, she was actually discharged into the care of the Occupational Therapist and Social Worker who came to collect her on the day she was leaving. When the Senior in charge asked what was happening with her Zimmer Frame, they said they would be back to collect it as they had a taxi waiting with all her bags. There was no mention of a wheelchair whilst in the care of St. Helena's, this lady did not use a wheelchair. The day the wheelchair was asked for, staff were not aware she had one because it was never used hence the confusion. There were no spare wheelchairs as the 2 that were there, actually belonged to other residents, they were not spare wheelchairs. Once the information was supplied regarding the wheelchair, it was located and given back. Return calls were made to this gentleman concerning the invoice, yes the Manager did leave on 12.5.17 and we did not say the owner was not available on "the number" we said the owner was not available at the time he wanted to speak to her. The rating of facilities and food and drink as being poor and satisfactory is confusing as according to the Senior in charge, this gentleman only visited on two occasions and sat in the hallway. According to this lady's care plan, she ate all her meals. This lady was treated with the utmost dignity and respect at all times and staff were supportive, patient and encouraging.

My mother has been a resident for two months. It took a little while to settle in and for the staff to get to fully know Mum, her needs, likes etc. I would describe most of the staff to be caring and hard working and the Manager and seniors in charge to be excellent. I have no concerns leaving my Mum in their care. There has been the occasional issue, but staff have addressed and reassured.

Thank you to all the team at St Helenas who have looked after my mum on respite and through your patience and care have brought her back to us. She was so very poorly and now looks so much better. The whole family have been in crisis and we were all given so much kindness and support which I personally will never forget. If you are feeling afraid or unsure as to which home to access for your loved one please be encouraged by our experience to try St Helenas.
