The success or the failure of a nursing home depends very much on the quality of the staff and management. During the time my wife was a resident both were excellent. I visited almost every day and perhaps this helped. Some of the staff had special skills, e.g. moving/repositioning residents in a painless
manner and this was much appreciated.

Patient and caring staff, effective and hands on management, flexible and accomodating, going out of their way to meet the individual needs.Very good communication, the Relatives Portal regularly updated and great for relatives who can't visit every day.
All staff including maintanance,reception,entertainment
etc staff seem to be working well together and get involved in resident care.
The rooms are nicely decorated, spacious and kept clean.
These are my early observations as my relative has only been at St Johns NH for a month but the first I'm ressions are very good.

Staff are very helpful.
Service level of care is good.
Feedback is sometimes difficult to get.
The phone is a poor connection to have and causes frustration too but us and my father.
Nurses are friendly.

Thank you for your review. We have given each shift mobile phones to use for relative and friends call, unfortunately, due to the size and layout of the building reception on our landlines has always been an issue. I am pleased to say the mobile phones work well.

The carers have treated the residents with good care and support. The activities for the residents have been varied and excellent, and have a yearly barbeque for them and their family with live entertainment. Live entertainment occurs also a few times the rest of the year. Cleanliness has improved to
what it was, with no smells while entering the building. The place is very secure, which is good for residents with dementia. The carers have also shown kindness and friendliness. It is good value for money compared to the cost of other nursing homes around the area.

I am forever grateful for the love, care, and compassion the staff of St John's gave my mother-in-law. I cannot praise this nursing home enough. They treated my mother-in-law (who died in November) so very, very well. I have no hesitation in recommending this fantastic home.
I have visited many, many
times. The staff are always friendly, polite, and professional. I always felt they were treating my mother-in-law as they would like to be treated, with genuine love and respect, as if she were their own mother.
There is a choice of varied, high-quality meals each day. There is entertainment every afternoon. On special occasions, performers are brought in to entertain. Family and friends are always welcome to these with many attending. During the summer they have large garden parties. Trips to the seaside are arranged throughout the year. The nursing home is always very clean and tidy.
If ever I need to live in a nursing home, I hope it is as good as St John's.

My mother was a resident here for three years until she passed away in December 2019. It's very difficult choosing a care home for a loved one and I was very happy we chose St John's. All the staff, from the nurses to the carers, to the cleaning staff were all excellent. It was a great comfort to know
she was safe and well looked after. She was treated with kindness, respect and dignity and she was always clean and well dressed. My mother had advanced dementia so she needed help with everything - there was nothing she could do for herself. The staff were so kind to her and were always smiling, talking to her and being gentle. We are so very grateful that we chose St John's.

Our experience of St John's has been very positive. My husband can sometimes prove challenging and this is dealt with in a very sympathetic and professional way. It has taken a huge weight off my mind to know that my husband is being so well looked after. All the staff are very kind and friendly towards

Staff shortages result in safety issues when those at high risk of falls are unsupervised.
The menu could be more varied for those with dietary requirements.
Staff are kind to residents and they are hardworking. The manager is open to feedback but could be more visible in public areas eg., lounges.
Water
should be available on each tray table in lounges as not all residents are able to request this.
Communication with nursing staff is improving.
If safety improves I would recommend St John's to others.

My cousin seems to be very happy here and has, after 1 year, settled in very nicely.
The staff couldn't be nicer. The staff give a variety of entertainment which is appreciated by all. All year activities are carried out with many visits outside for day trips.

My wife spent her last months at St John's and we visited once a week for a year before she moved in. I still can't express how good St John's is, sure, they looked after my wife very well, but that's not half of it. I came every day and could see how loved she was. I mean 'loved'; it was touching.
I also saw, over a period of 2 years, how settled the staff were. There's very little turnover which is a key measure in my book and the range of activities is so important and so well prepared.

I was visiting my aunt in St John's. She is the third of my aunts to have resided there so I have been visiting the home over many years. I have always found the place welcoming and the staff pleasant. A good atmosphere, I just wish my mother has been in St John's when it was her time to enter a home.
I picked on near me which was just about ok.

Our Mother has resided at St Johns for just over a year. She is treated with kindness and consideration at all times and the nursing care is excellent. She has made excellent progress and has settled very well. The home has a very happy atmosphere and is clean and bright. We feel very welcome every
time we visit and there is always someone to speak to should we have any questions at all. We have not had any problems at all since our Mum has been in St Johns. When we visit she looks very well, her hair done and clothes clean and immaculate which are things that are very important to her. She enjoys the activities and is thriving in such a caring community. We are so pleased that we managed to find such a lovely place for our Mum and can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.232)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.232) out of 10 for St John's Nursing Home Ltd is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.512 for St John's Nursing Home Ltd is calculated as follows: ( (24 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 43 Ratings = 4.512
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.72 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St John's Nursing Home Ltd is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.6 = 0.345
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

My Italian roots and passion for good food have guided me from a young age towards the world of catering. After completing a five-year course of study at catering school, I decided to embark on an international experience in London, a city I considered essential for honing my skills and becoming a top-level chef.
The years spent in London gourmet restaurants allowed me to acquire a solid technical foundation and a deep knowledge of international culinary trends. However, it was the almost accidental encounter with catering in care homes that marked a turning point in my career. The joy and gratitude of the residents after a well-prepared meal offered me unparalleled satisfaction, prompting me to dedicate myself to this sector.
For about eight years, I have held the role of Head Chef at various private healthcare companies, where I am committed to offering a quality culinary experience, attentive to the needs and tastes of the guests. I am a curious and creative cook, who loves to experiment and transform ingredients into unique dishes, like a painter who uses colors to create a work of art. My attention to detail and meticulousness allow me to take care of every aspect of the preparation, leaving nothing to chance. I love working in a team and creating a positive and collaborative work environment.
My determination and passion for catering have driven me to return to my studies, enrolling in a degree course in Hotel & Business Management. My goal is to expand my skills and become a successful Food & Beverage Manager, able to combine my culinary experience with a solid knowledge of the hospitality sector.
