Review from A S (Nephew of Resident) published on 28 May 2024 Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I am obviously not in a position to provide a review on behalf of my uncle who is the resident, so can only comment on how I perceive the home to be from my (sadly not too frequent) visits. I am always struck with how friendly and kind the care staff are towards me when I arrive. When I arrived unannounced
this May, I saw my uncle outside having a smoke - something that is important to him and considering his complete lack of mobility, he is completely dependent on staff for this pleasure which they clearly accommodate.
My uncle was then made comfortable again in his room, so after a brief chat, he suggested to me going outside again which the staff accommodated without any sense of frustration despite the time taken to get him out of bed and help in back again. The environment is really clean, well staffed and the outside grounds really nicely kept. My uncle seems to be very well cared for and his needs catered for.
Reply from Tanya Markides, New Resident Manager at Cornford HouseThank you for the lovely review. We are so pleased your uncle is happy with us. It is our aim to facilitate people's right to freedom of choice.

My mother-in-law was transferred from hospital to Cornford House Care Home for end-of-life care. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful. My mother-in-law was beautifully cared for; washing, dressing, nail care, mouth care and general comfort. Nothing was too much trouble and they cared for us as a
family too.

I have had to speak to the manager of the home several times about certain things that I didn't like, and she has been excellent, and has sorted out everything that I have asked of her. I can honestly say she has been the best manager since my friend has been there. The chef is going and there is a
new one. I will also say all the time she is in charge I will 100% recommend you as a care home.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.784)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.784) out of 10 for Cornford House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.784 for Cornford House is calculated as follows: ( (278 Excellents x 5) + (65 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 348 Ratings = 4.784
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cornford House is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2026

My name is Marie. I am the General Manager at Cornford House.

I am an experienced, supportive, caring, and efficient leader with over 20 years of experience in the Health and Social Care sector and over 10 years in a management position.

I have worked in various Leadership and Management positions within the healthcare sector, with extensive experience working in partnership with external stakeholders and managing large teams.

I have love and passion for leading a team and being supportive of my colleagues as well as the residents and their families. I have worked with several client groups and their needs include people with Complex Physical and Emotional needs, Mental Health needs, and Behaviours that challenge Epilepsy and Dementia. The skills and competence obtained from studying for a Master’s Degree (MSc) in Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care have enabled me to successfully plan, lead and implement change within a healthcare setting.

I have a strong work ethic, and I am proud to work in the care sector, which has been recognised by NHS England and CQC, who complimented me on my leadership style, determination, and commitment to implement change, working as one team. I always put people first, show kindness and still have the energy to love life and make it meaningful for myself and those in my care.

In my spare time, I train to run half marathons and raise money for local charities. I have a keen interest in current Care Standards, legislation and Innovation, which includes– Person-Centred Assessment and Care Planning, staff and carers training and Positive Behavioural Support (PBS), and designing and implementing Best Practice Guidelines for Older People and People who live with Dementia.
