Overview

The Review Score of 9.7 (maximum of 10) for Victoria Chartwell is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 17 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Victoria Chartwell in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.658 for Victoria Chartwell is calculated as follows: ( (144 Excellents x 5) + (47 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 202 Ratings = 4.658

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Victoria Chartwell is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 4.4 positive Reviews (22 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 8 Reviews ÷ 4.4 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

9.7 Victoria Chartwell has a Review Score of 9.7 (9.658) from 17 Reviews

From initial contact and introduction to the domicile, our experience has been absolutely fantastic.
The staff and environment alike are so welcoming.
I have been impressed time and again by the nurturing, caring and sincerely considerate approach of each and every professional.
I am so grateful to feel heard and understood in representing a loved one who cannot advocate for herself.
The peace of mind afforded knowing the residents really do come first is priceless. Thanks.

It's a relief for my mum to be in such a nice home. They pick up on any illnesses very easily and get them addressed. The staff are usually able to cajole Mum into having a bath as often as she needs one but doesn't want one.

Mum is able to move freely around the home. She has also made friends here with both residents and staff. Staff are always helpful to me when I ask for anything.

Thank you for your support and I am delighted to hear your thoughts, all of which will be passed onto the staff.
Best wishes.

Since my father died, the management and staff have done all they can to care for my mother and to help her to adjust. It is most impressive to see that there are rarely any changes of staff, they come across as a very happy and caring team.

Thank you for your kind words of support.

A nice home with hard working, friendly staff.

Residents encouraged to join in the many activities.

Food OK

Bedtimes a bit early (in readiness for night staff shift).

The residents are kept clean.

The rooms although clean would benefit from more attention to maintenance (call-bells, curtains, switches etc)

Thank you for your support and I do note your important observations regarding maintenance, catering and bedtimes. All of these will be taken very seriously and addressed accordingly.

The close friend (who we are responsible for) was lucky to be offered a rehabilitation placement at Victoria Chartwell Home and ended up being there nearly 10 weeks. He was very well cared for and all the staff and managers made an effort to be friendly, kind and considerate of his loss of independence, through physical and mental ill-health. His room was very pleasant and kept tidy and clean at all times, and the laundry did a great job with his clothes. Everyone there was also very kind to us, his carers kept us informed of everything and welcomed us as visitors at any time.

Thank you for this wonderfully positive review and I am delighted you were so happy.

My aunt died in this home on June 22nd after living there for over 8 years. She latterly had agency carers during the day, but the provision by the home itself was excellent. I visited every few weeks (I live a long way away) but I never gave warning of my visits. I always found everything in excellent order, which was great for me and my family as well as for my aunt, who lived to the age of 96 1/2!

Emma Sheriff, Care Quality Director at Victoria Chartwell responded to this review on 12 Jul 2017:

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review and thank you for your support.

My mother had not wanted to leave her home but accepted finally that she needed palliative care. When I heard she had moved into care, I booked the first flight I could from Australia, arriving on the morning of the day she died. I found the staff at VCNH welcoming and my mother being cared for sensitively in every possible way. They couldn't have been kinder, gentler or more soothing, answering her every request. They gave us time alone but were available all the time.

Thank you for the kind words and I am so sorry you met the staff in such difficult circumstances.
Best wishes.

Would like to say how happy we were with the care extended to our father over the last few months at Chartwell. The Deputy Manager and his staff always treated Dad with the utmost respect and kindness and we were always confident that Papa was in good hands.
Communication with our large family who were in and out visiting was very good and we all felt comfortable amongst the staff and well looked after ourselves when we virtually moved in during Dad's last few days. Thank you all.

Thank you for your support and I am very sorry for your loss.

All our family found Victoria Chartwell to be a warm and welcoming home with dedicated staff who are kind and respectful to the residents. There is a very happy atmosphere and I felt that my father felt secure and safe with his carers.
His last weeks were very difficult for the family but the staff were fantastically supportive and open with us and helped us understand his journey. They couldn't have been more helpful and sensitive to his needs which was very reassuring for us and they made my sister and I welcome and comfortable when we stayed the nights to be with our Dad until the end.

I am so very sorry for your terrible loss and can't thank you enough for taking the time to tell us how you felt about the wonderful team at Victoria Chartwell.
Thank you and best wishes.

Victoria Chartwell is a happy and welcoming place for those in their vulnerable years. There is a programme of activities every month, a sunny garden to enjoy and regular staff which helps to build a good relationship between resident and carer.

My father has wonderfully cared for nearly a year with dignity and respect by all members of staff both day and night. The kindness shown to our family in father's last days was immense and eased the burden of his passing.

Firstly, I am very sorry for your terrible loss and secondly I must thank you for your wonderfully kind words which mean a great deal.

In my experience, the staff are excellent, caring and kind. My grandmother is always clean and smartly dressed, her nails are painted and her hair always perfect. My grandmother is always happy and the fact that she is 102 years old and going strong which says a lot. She loves the activities and has been talking more and seems more alert than ever.

Paul Burns, Managing Director at Victoria Chartwell responded to this review on 24 Apr 2017:

Thank you for your kind words at such a difficult time.

My mother has resided at Victoria Chartwell for a few years, the care throughout has been excellent. She has celebrated her 100th and 101st birthdays in the home and on Friday 31st March and Saturday 1st April she was given two fabulous parties: one for the residents with a singer and one with her family. The staff worked tirelessly, over and above what is expected of them to make her 102nd birthday so brilliantly memorable. I cannot praise them enough.

Staff friendly and extremely helpful. Food very good and varied although I would have preferred more green veg. Very good value for the money and the nurses knew what they were doing and at times went the extra mile. A shower room would be a good thing.

Paul Burns, Managing Director at Victoria Chartwell responded to this review on 14 Mar 2017:

Your positive support is much appreciated.
Thank you.

I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma (terminal bone marrow cancer) in 2008. I was admitted to hospital in early January with a UTI and pneumonia. In late January I was transferred to the Victoria Chartwell for rehab care until late Feb. From the start, I felt 'at home', safe and comfortable.

All the staff showed a caring and loving approach. Nothing was too much trouble and it seemed that attitude was given to all residents. There is obviously a good team spirit at the home.

The food was nourishing and plentiful and well presented.

If I need nursing care etc in the future I would be very content to return to the Victoria Chartwell.

My mother has spent 6 weeks here in rehab after a fall and a hip operation. She is 94 years old and has received excellent care during her stay. I can not praise the staff enough for their dedication and support. She has been safe, comfortable and very happy here and would highly recommend this nursing home. Please inform all staff and pass on our sincere thanks.
