The Review Score of 2.1 (maximum of 10) for Abbas Combe is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 2.1 out of 5 from 1 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Abbas Combe in Google's Search Results - more info
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 0 out of 5 from 0 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.
The Average Rating of 2.083 for Abbas Combe is calculated as follows: ( (1 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 2.083
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.
1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.
If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.
The 0 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbas Combe is based on 0 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:
0 = 0
Target of 5 positive Reviews (25 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 0 Reviews ÷ 5 Target = 0

Mr R Dharmasingham, Director at Abbas Combe responded to this review on 27 Sep 2017:
We are sorry that you feel that the care received by your mother was of a poor standard for the duration of her 3 1/2 years stay with us. During this time, every effort has been made by the management team to ensure an excellent standard of care for your mother. We have gained feedback from her on a frequent basis and the general feeling was that there was a high level of satisfaction with the service she received.
We also regret that it was necessary to transfer your mother once her funding was solely dependent on the Local Authority. Every effort was made by the Management team to consider how we would be able to keep your mother and care for her needs despite the low fee level. Unfortunately, it is necessary to have a clear policy regarding Local Authority funding which we make all residents and their families aware of on admission to the service. The Local Authority fees paid for care do not currently enable us to provide a good standard of care and it is our intention to offer all of our residents the best possible staff and facilities to meet their needs within our setting to provide a caring, attentive and stable environment. Whilst we regret having to charge a top-up fee over Local Authority rates, we cannot achieve our high level of care without doing this whilst the Local Authority has a clear policy of underfunding care at this current moment in time.
We do make every effort to keep our fees at a very competitive level and have consistently received excellent feedback from service users and visitors about the facilities we offer at such an affordable price.
