Reply from Kam Kaur, Home Manager at Newbury Manor Nursing HomeThank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experience and the distress caused to both your loved one and your family during their stay with us.

We take concerns regarding care, dignity, cleanliness, staffing response, and resident safety very seriously. The matters you have raised have been referred to senior management for review, including the emergency response described in your comments.

We would also like to note that no concerns were raised with management during the resident's stay, which limited our opportunity to investigate and address these matters at the time. We always encourage families to speak with us directly so concerns can be reviewed promptly and appropriately.

We appreciate your feedback, as it helps us continue to review and improve our service. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss your concerns further by telephone. Please contact the home manager at your convenience so we can arrange a suitable time to speak privately.

When my husband Bob had to come into care it was a huge worry, but from the start, the warm atmosphere and caring staff at Newbury were immediately apparent. Bob has dementia so it is difficult to know his true feelings but recently he has said to family that he is very happy at Newbury, and this is
a credit to all the staff who look after him as Alzheimers can be difficult to manage. The rest of the family feel comforted that he is well cared for and says the staff love him. I couldn't be more content to feel he is in the right place.

Excellent care and service staff are all friendly with both residents and family members. I couldn't ask for better care for my mom.
She is happy and content to be there she has been there for 2 years now and is doing so well she was admitted there with just six weeks to live but with the care she
has received she is thriving 2 years on.

So many Safeguarding issues! Includes two broken femurs and more falls and bruises than I can remember. Very poor comunication. Clothing ruined, items missing - even after leaving (family pics). Very slow to respond to official communication if at all. Mom has gone from feeding herself, sitting in the
lounge and talking to nonverbal, bedridden and is so weak.
Reply from Kam Kaur, Home Manager at Newbury Manor Nursing HomeThank you for your review and comments. Ensuring patient safety is of utmost importance, and while we cannot completely eliminate falls, we can certainly take measures to reduce the associated risks. It is essential to acknowledge that certain health deteriorations and comorbidities are beyond our control. However, please rest assured that any issues that arise are addressed in accordance with our home's policies and procedures. We sincerely apologize if you feel otherwise, and we hope that your mom is finding happiness in our sister home.

My dad entered the home in mis November 2023, he was dealt with, with care, professionalism and kindness particularly given he was end of life. The staff always treated me and members of the family kindly which made life easier. Dad was very well looked after to the very end. I'm extremely grateful
to the entire team who had a role in my dad's life which led to him passing away with dignity.

My father-in-law had his 80th birthday party at the home and it was amazing. It was really kind of the manager to let us use the red room, all the staff were excellent in helping organise the party for us all to enjoy. Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.417)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.417) out of 10 for Newbury Manor Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.517 for Newbury Manor Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (166 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (15 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 205 Ratings = 4.517
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Newbury Manor Nursing Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 56 registered maximum number of service users is 11.2, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
