Reviews

8.8 The Cedars Nursing Home has a Review Score of 8.8 (8.817)

The Review Score of 8.8 (maximum of 10) for The Cedars Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 10 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for The Cedars Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.567 for The Cedars Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 120 Ratings = 4.567

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.25 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Cedars Nursing Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.75

    2. Target of 8 positive Reviews (40 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 4 Reviews ÷ 8 Target = 0.500

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Was referred for a POP bed after ankle surgery on 30th December 2016. Arrived 6th January and left 15th February after 7 weeks of rehabilitation and a second ankle surgery. Arrived again on 4th April for a further 6-week stay before more rehabilitation. The house is clean, tidy and well run and the staff, nurses and care assistants are punctual and very organised, courteous and friendly. The residents are well looked after and nothing is too much trouble with their care. This is my first experience of a care home and one which I will never forget. A Pastoral team organises activities and the gardens are very attractive.

Thank you Pam. It is nice to hear the view of an actual resident who is receiving the care themselves.

The staff work very hard and it is lovely to read that it is greatly appreciated.

My mother resided at The Cedars Nursing Home since July 2016. Sadly, she died last week. Whilst she was in their care she was very well cared for. I have nothing but praise for every member of staff I had dealings with. The carers were exactly that, caring. The food was good and the environment clean, tidy, well equipped and comfortable. During periods of illness, she received excellent nursing care. The home is extremely well lead. All staff were receptive to what either I or my mother may have requested. I believe her last months were happy ones.

In June 2015 I broke my ankle for the second time as I was 85 and on my own I couldn't stay at home. I wasn't sick or frail but wasn't allowed to walk even in plaster for 10 weeks. I didn't want to go into care it scared me. The Cedars gave me a light airy room and the staff were wonderful, they are much more than staff they are a family in themselves. I cannot praise them enough. I never heard one word and matron is wise beyond her years. I have written to the owner in far more detail, the home is a credit to him.

Robert Delaney, Proprietor at The Cedars Nursing Home responded to this review on 20 May 2016:

It was a privilege to look after this lady and a pleasure to hear from her again.

Mother has been at the The Cedars for five years, her care has been very good, the staff are pleasant and caring. The food is good and cooked on site. Any problems are dealt with and resolved quickly. The gardens are kept looking lovely with lots of plants and colour all year. I am always made to feel welcome and called by name.

Both my aged parents have had the need of Cedars nursing care. Firstly my father who lived out his last few weeks in the home and now my mother with dementia and poor physical health and mobility. With them both we find Cedars carers to be very kind, caring and sympathetic to their needs. The home itself is kept lovely and clean and well maintained, the building is a wonderful place to have my mum live in and the gardens are superb and beautiful. We as a family couldn't wish for a better place.

A very clean, caring and supportive nursing home. Staff at The Cedars all know the residents by name and take care to maintain their dignity. There are activities most afternoons in the main lounge, there is a TV lounge and quiet lounge.
Food is good and cooked on the premises.
I would strongly recommend The Cedars (and have done to to friends and acquaintances).
