Five years on and our 94-year-old mum is still being cared for and loved by the amazing staff, from domestic carers, nurses and even the chef. We had her 5th afternoon tea party complete with a fabulous cake made again by the chef/kitchen. It was on the 27th just last week. She has Vascular dementia
and many other illnesses and handicaps. 5 years in her comfy bed and never a bedsore. There is nowhere better, although she may not know us, she does know she is comfortable and cared for. A glass of wine or a Baileys, delicious food in an immaculately clean premises, we can be assured she is so well looked after and as happy as she can be. Thank you Ottley House and all staff.

My brother has been with the home since August 2021. On average I visit about 3 times per week, each lasting about 1 hour. During this time, I have established a good relationship with all the staff, from management down to the cleaners. I have found them all to be friendly and supportive in the care
of my brother and he seems happy and contented in his situation.

All I’m going to say is if you care about your loved ones do not leave them at Ottley House. The place is a dump and needs shutting down.
Staff neglect residents and do not care. They leave them suffering.
Animals would get treated better.
Do not believe the 5-star reviews, they are probably made
up by staff.

My mother has been living at Barchester Ottley House Care Home for the last 6 months. The staff are always smiling, they all work so hard to take care of all the residents. Nothing is too much trouble and they keep me informed on Mum's care phoning me if something has changed. The food is varied and
there is always a nice choice for mum to choose from. I cannot fault the care my mum receives. They have activities regularly. Thank you to everyone from the manager to the cleaner for all your handwork and dedication to the residents

The home always treats the residents with the dignity and respect that they deserve. Nothing is too much trouble, it’s a real home from home experience, my Dad is a resident and has been since last November. He always has a smile for all the staff they treat him like family. I have no concerns when
I leave him after visiting, he is well looked after. Activities are regular including singing, cake tasting and a Sunday service which he loves to attend. Staff always notify me if there are any concerns or changes no matter how small. I visited other Nursing homes but none had the “personal” touch that I feel Barchester Ottley House Care Home has! Thankyou Ottley!

My whole experience of this wonderful nursing home was a happy one. All the staff were lovely, from the manager right through to the cleaners. Mum was professionally cared for and totally respected. Thank you again, Ottley House.

Ottley staff are amazing my dad has been here for around 18 months and has settled in great, the food is great too, they certainly get a good choice, they keep on top of all dad's needs with drs app etc, well done Ottley.

Went with a colleague from the Railway Heritage Trust to visit a long-standing member of our organisation who is safely and happily living in this wonderful home. We were staggered at the quality of the premises. Every aspect of this building is immaculate and beautifully cared for. Plenty of happy,
hard-working and totally committed staff on site. Nothing was too much trouble. It is more like a 5-star hotel than a care home - really superb! Our visit was truly incredible. A stunning facility - in every way!

An excellent home for my mother who has been at Ottley House for over 6 years. All staff put on a great Coronation party (with wonderful decorations) - inside due to rain- and although busy, were happy to move Mother to her room as she tired easily. Always a warm atmosphere.

Staff take genuine care of their residents and you can see the residents feel comfortable around them. The activities team do an amazing job of providing a variety of activities which all residents can participate in and enjoy. Management is good at sharing information and unit staff always get in touch
with updates on health and any incidents. Excellent food, quality and choice and provision for all dietary requirements. The upkeep of the grounds is amazing, with the creation of serene and colourful surroundings.

My husband has been in Ottley House since Feb 2020 and I think he is as happy as he can be, given his dementia. He doesn't know anything or anyone, including me. I don't visit often as he can be upset and that's the last thing I want. His carers look after him very well, and I am very grateful for this.
He can be difficult and unpredictable and needs a lot of attention and patience when he is like this, and I think from talking to them they do their best. They make sure he eats as well as possible, takes his medication (and when he doesn't want to they persuade him), and they look after his physical needs well, as he doesn't seem to have any issues.
I and my children hate to see him like this, and as he doesn't know anybody we don't visit because it is of no benefit to him, in fact, it can be unsettling. I feel bad about this, but I think it's the right thing to do.

From the moment I stepped into the light and airy reception at Barchester Ottley House Care Home I knew my husband would receive the care he needed and deserved. Everyone, kitchen, laundry, activities, maintenance, administration, carers and nurses, all are very caring and supportive of residents and

My father came to Ottley House following a short stay at another nursing home. He came to Ottley non trusting of staff and very nervous due to previous experiences of care elsewhere.
From the first point of contact via a telephone conversation, we got that instant feeling of 'they care and they are
listening'. The viewing was also thorough and we too as a family felt we had support. On Dad's arrival at Ottley he was welcomed and all his care needs were met at the highest standard. He instantly looked relaxed and comfortable because the staff spoke 'to him' not 'at him!' Communication is brilliant, staff will ring you with updates as and when appropriate. Visiting Dad and spending quality time with him is so lovely and the staff have got to know him and us so the atmosphere of 'home' is real! We really feel, as a family, we are now visiting Dad's 'new home' and it's given us faith in the care sector. The manager is running a tight ship! The staff are happy and professional, which speaks volumes!

My sister has recently passed away but was a resident at Ottley House for several years.
The standard of care was exceptional, the nurses, carers, housekeepers, managers and the chef and kitchen team are simply superb. They really managed my sister's care as a team, discussing diet and nutrition with
us, medication and of course her well-being through activities which were suited to her condition. Towards the end of her life, she got huge comfort from a light and sound machine that showed slowly moving images on the wall of her room, this calmed her and made her so much more comfortable.
Medically, the nursing team could not do enough and I cannot thank the carers and nurses enough for their efforts in her last days.
Care at Ottley really is something else, food is superb and plentiful, it is spotlessly clean and the residents are kept stimulated and busy through their activity program.
The level of comfort, advice and support offered to us as her family throughout her stay was exceptional.

My dad had been a resident for four years and has recently passed away. The level of care and compassion he was given throughout was excellent. In his final days, he was allowed the dignity of passing away in the home he knew as his home. All of the staff know all the residents so well and treat them

There are not enough words in reviewing the empathy, care and support given to my sister and myself and special friends during complex, sad times. The dedication given in the care and support by all staff on the Charles Darwin Unit, their, empathy, reassurance and smiles so appreciated and needed.
My sister's difficult journey was eased, and her anxieties calmed. There are not enough thanks and appreciation that I can give. Teamwork at its ultimate best.

This is a beautiful and welcoming home. The staff are always friendly and caring, nothing ever seems to be too much trouble. I always have a positive experience when I visit the home. The culture of care and friendliness is set from the top by the manager who is absolutely lovely and so professional.
I believe that the care team there and the reception team are exemplary. A beautiful environment too that is surrounded by glorious grounds.

My father who has advanced dementia has been a resident at Ottley House for almost 5 years. In that time both he and we have come to see it as "home". His room is comfortable and with some of his own possession and his favourite chair home like.
The housekeeping team do an amazing job keeping both
his room and communal areas tidy. Care staff are now like family to him. The catering team produce wonderful homecooked meals. The nursing team are responsive to any of my concerns.

Hi, my name is Kuda and I am the General Manager here at Ottley House Care Home.


I undertook my nurse training in Zimbabwe and qualified as a registered nurse in 2007. I joined Barchester Healthcare as an overseas nurse in August 2016.


Through dedication and commitment to excellence, I developed through various leadership roles leading up to my current position.


My role as the general manager at Otley House is overseeing daily operations, ensuring high standards of care, and maintaining regulatory compliance. My approach is centred on creating a nurturing environment where residents feel safe, valued and well cared for. My leadership is characterised by my ability to inspire the team fostering a culture of empathy, respect, and continuous improvement.

I started working at Ottley House in 2012 as a senior carer. Unfortunately due to an injury, I was no longer able to carry out this role. I really enjoyed working at Ottley House so when the position of Admin Assistant came up in 2014, I applied and was lucky enough to be offered the role. I am here at reception to greet all our visitors with a warm and friendly welcome. I also assist the home administrator in the financial department. I have just completed my NVQ level 2 in Business and Administration.

I joined Ottley House in October 2015 as a carer on the Ann Carter unit, I was then promoted to senior care assistant in June 2019. In my role I am responsible for inducting new staff members, to mentor them in providing high quality care. I recently completed my NVQ 2 which I passed with distinction, I hope to progress to the next level soon.

I came to England from Romania in 2017 with my wife, who is also a registered nurse here at Ottley House. We started as senior care assistants until our PIN came through a few months later. Making sure the residents receive excellent care is what I'm here for - it's all about them!

A friend asked me if i was interested in working a few hours here and there at Ottley House to help in the housekeeping department, that was in 2016 and i have never looked back. i am proud at how our team keeps the house clean and tidy, chatting to the residents as i go.
