Reviews

9.1 Hyde Nursing Home has a Review Score of 9.1 (9.055)

The Review Score of 9.1 (maximum of 10) for Hyde Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 18 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Hyde Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.355 for Hyde Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (115 Excellents x 5) + (63 Goods x 4) + (34 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 214 Ratings = 4.355

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hyde Nursing Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 20 positive Reviews (100 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 14 Reviews ÷ 20 Target = 0.700

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Caring, helpful, clean and tidy home.
Good facilities and pleasant staff.
Appears well run.
Only one negative is that it is difficult to get an answer to the phone at weekends.

My father was admitted to Hyde Nursing Home after several months in the hospital, I cannot fault this home at all. All staff are kind, caring and considerate. His nursing care is outstanding and any problems that always keep us up to date. It is clean and facilities are good. We just wish he was admitted from the first moment he went into care, instead of his previous one. Would highly recommend this home to anyone.

My wife seems to have settled better possibly because the number of staff has increased and continuity has improved which has a calming effect on residents. I find the problem is usually centred around the night staff which seems to be largely made up of agency carers. I understand that this is under review.

My mum has bee a resident for over a year now.
My sister and I visit daily and find the staff friendly and always approachable. There seems to be an improvement in some practices, such as activities and staffing levels. Also, more regular carers, be it some are agency, which does not cause any concerns for me.
I would like to see the outdoor areas improved, particularly for the spring and summer period, so that we can spend time outside when we visit.

Our relative moved here one week ago, having been transferred from hospital. Prior to this, she was in residential care. From the outset, we have been treated really well. All staff have been very professional, helpful and efficient. The room is clean, pleasant and warm. She appears to have settled in well.
Queries have been dealt with promptly and we feel confident about her care.
Attention to detail regarding her needs, preferences and interests has been impressive.

My nan came into this care home in a very unwell state. The nurse immediately noticed her state and had her admitted to hospital. When she came back to the home after her stay in hospital all the staff have done their utmost to accommodate her needs which have included attending multi-agency meetings and giving updates on how she has been. All in all, I am very pleased to see the level of care with dignity she has received. So far so good!

I am very pleased to say that there has been a significate improvement in the general well-being of the care home during the past 12months, and what was a 'maybe' in the last assessment, has in my view, become an 'extremely likely' in recommending the care home to others.
In particular, the care staff have become a more efficient caring unit and it is pleasing to note that the home is now becoming less reliant on agency staff.
In this regard, the night staff have also improved with the introduction of new capable, reliant staff.
The entertainment in the home was non-existent but now with the introduction of two enthusiastic new members, things are changing and the anticipated outcome is looking good.
The security of the building was in urgent need of revision and now this has been achieved, it is much improved.
My only criticism is some of the bedrooms and furniture is looking at bit tired, but Rome was not built in a day.

A lovely welcoming home with a friendly family atmosphere. The nurse on my mums unit is always bright and bubbly with a positive attitude which I feel is needed for her job.
The entertainment co-ordinators do a fantastic job, the events they put on help bring people together to cause that family atmosphere. The home is lovely and clean, the laundry service is very efficient and the meals are rally good. All in all a very good home which I would highly recommend. My mum settled in well and feels at home.

My wife arrived at the home on the 1st December. We had visited the home and we liked what we had seen. We were very grateful to the manager who visited my wife at the hospital. She was assessed and transferred very quickly which was what we needed as the other place were sending her to a different home which was inconvenient for travelling. Since my wife arrived, we feel she has settled quickly and it appears she is happy as can be expected. We have found the staff very pleasant and notes there seems to be always staff available. In general, we have been satisfied we have found the right place for her.

My husband has been a resident of this nursing home for 2 months. In this time there has been a marked improvement in his Quality of Life. I attribute such improvement to the excellent care he receives from all the staff who care for him. Christmas Day was a happy day for my husband, myself and my son (my husband's stepson). When we arrived at the nursing home the pavilion was seasonally decorated and on entering the unit we were welcomed by the staff and invited to stay for Christmas lunch. We had a delicious 3-course meal, beautifully cooked and well presented by the unit staff. The atmosphere was festive and my husband and the other residents and families eating with us were obviously enjoying themselves. The time my husband and I were able to spend together and the fact that we ate our Christmas meal as a family was wonderful and very much appreciated by us all.

I find there is a shortage of staff and rely too much on agencies. Carers are attentive. My wife likes the activities she takes part in and loves the singalongs with the activities lady who is always pleasant, as all the staff are. My one concern is that the radiator is not working, apparently this has been reported but to no avail.

HC-One, Careline Team at Hyde Nursing Home responded to this review on 21 Jul 2016:

Thank you for your comments. We are pleased to hear that the carers are attentive and it is lovely to know that your wife enjoys the activities and that you find the staff pleasant. We are sorry that there appears to be an issue with the radiator in your wife’s room. We will take action to address this and will inform you of progress. Please do not hesitate to speak with the Home Manager if you have any further concerns and they will be very happy to assist you.
Thanking you again for taking the time to provide really helpful feedback about the home. We value all feedback and ensure it is recorded and acted upon.

My mum arrived at Hyde Nursing Home on 18th February 2016 from another care home due to closing. We did have some problems with Hyde Nursing Home on mum's 1st day, when her room wasn't ready and nobody knew she was arriving. Although most of the issues have now sorted. Occasionally mum still has problems with her medications given on time due to different agency nurses working. Hopefully in future Hyde Nursing Home will have a permanent nurses and understand the important issues of giving medications on time to residents who like my mum have Parkinson's Disease.

HC-One, Careline Team at Hyde Nursing Home responded to this review on 21 Jul 2016:

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. We really value the feedback provided by those who use our services.
We are very sorry that the service has not been to your expectations and that the home was not expecting your Mum’s admission in February. Thank you for confirming that most of the issues have been resolved. We are working hard to recruit a team of permanent nurses which will reduce the need for agency nurses to work in the home. We have in place a robust system for monitoring the medication management in the home to address any issues that arise. We are currently developing new care profiles and would like to invite you to a meeting to be part of this review with your Mum. Please do not hesitate to speak with the Home Manager if you have any on-going concerns. Thank you for raising your concerns, we value all feedback and ensure it is recorded and acted upon.

No problems at all. We are happy with my father's care. We are very happy with the staff. My dad seems happy and that's all that matters. One of my dads carers is very kind, caring and always helpful.

There has been significant changes in management structure and staffing. This has lead to unsatisfactory outcomes during these changes. With recent stability things have improved and more permanent staff (care) have been employed. However there is still a reliance on agency staff who are unfamiliar with routines and the residents. The outside area nearest to Werneth Court, which is enclosed, is not safe for residents to go out unaided, due to broken, uneven flags and damaged furniture. There is a need to provide stimuli by way of simple gardening tasks, raised beds, safe surfaces. The care staff on Werneth Court work with complete dedication and show residents a high degree of respect. There are too few activities for all residents to engage in.

T Matthews, Head of Marketing at Hyde Nursing Home responded to this review on 05 Oct 2015:

Thank you for your feedback. We take all feedback very seriously and investigate any issues raised with our care centre team. Our management team changed some time ago and we are pleased that we have also been able to increase the permanent members of our care team.

We are pleased to report that Residents at Werneth Court have benefited from the outside space during the summer period and enjoyed summer parties with families and the care team. We are undertaking a small programme of work in place to improve some surface areas within the garden which we hope to have in place soon. In the meantime, Residents are supported to use our other lovely outside space to the front of the building so that those who enjoy gardening can continue to do so. We benefit from a dedicated Activities Coordinator and lots of lovely facilities including a Sun Room. We carry out one-to-one activities as well as a range of activities that are determined by our Residents each day. In addition we have a number of 'organised' activities that take place each week such as Armchair Aerobics.

Our Care Centre Manager welcomes input from our Residents and their families so that wherever possible our home supports the interests and hobbies of Residents living with us.
