Elmwood practises personalised nursing and residential care for a number of requirements, including palliative care, convalescence and respite provision.

They want their residents to enjoy their time at Elmwood. Whether they’re coming to recover from an operation or to begin living among them, they are there to offer genuine friendship and a high standard of care.

This extensively refurbished facility features mature landscaped gardens, en-suite bedrooms and versatile social areas for a positive and comfortable lifestyle. Though homely, great attention has been paid to the health and security of the home.

Mealtimes are an important part of the day, with menus prepared by an experienced chef and consisting of fresh and seasonal produce.

The care philosophy includes support for an active lifestyle, with an activities co-ordinator getting to know each resident’s hobbies and interests and organising many social occasions and outings.

My mother is 101 years old in two weeks. She has lived at Elmwood for almost 11 years. I am not backwood at coming forward if a complaint is necessary, but in 11 years this has never been necessary. My mothers room is large, always clean and free from odour. When the weather is good there is a pleasant
outside area to sit. The meals are served in a spacious restaurant and the choice of menu is excellent. Above all the staff are and have been over 11 years, excellent.

Mum stayed here for two weeks respite. All the staff were caring and friendly. Mum was very well cared for and looked after during her stay. The staff made sure mum was assessed and her needs met whilst she was there. This was greatly appreciated by the family and helped provide peace of mind.

My 94 year old terminally ill great aunt, spent the last few weeks of her life in Elmwood. I was incredibly impressed with the whole team who contributed to that care. Room was comfortable and clean, still were very caring, supportive, friendly and competent. They were understanding and sympathetic
to our plight. I would not hesitate to recommend the home to any one else with same circumstances as our own.

The new manager is very good, and what the care home needed! She has the residents care and well-being in her sight and has been working hard, listening to residents that can communicate, striving for better personal care, interaction with staff and residents, dignity, sending staff on courses to improve
these areas. She has eradicated the problems with the night time staffing issues Elmwood had which were concerning.
Very good group of carers for the vast majority. Although the carers do not have the time to spend better/ quality time with residents, only have time to do the basics eg. toilet help, health matters. Residents need more personal time shared! Food and drink is very poor, poorly made, poor quality and very cheap - want this to change. Resident's that can complain do but the chef doesn't change.
The Activities Coordinator at Elmwood does a Wonderful Job. He is so giving of himself to all the Residents. He is a delight to watch with them.

Our warm and friendly home welcomes those in need of residential and nursing care. There are lots places to relax at Elmwood. Our bedrooms are spacious with an en suite W/C. Our peaceful garden is surrounded by mature trees, perfect for a stroll to our summerhouse.

Tom

Tom Carter

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2022

Having a passion when it comes to healthcare, my background is built on Operational NHS Community Service Management. My experience from these roles includes service improvement projects to streamline Community Services, renovating Child Development Centres through to commissioning new therapy rehab programmes. I made the change to Bupa care services to enable a more focused improvement approach with the aim of providing the highest quality care to our residents' whilst promoting independence and dignity in a setting that can be enjoyed by everyone.


My appreciation of this role comes from the improvements we can provide for residents, and equally their families lives. Providing a safe engaging environment where residents can be themselves alongside visits from their loved ones helps us achieve a home away from home setting here at Elmwood.


I commute daily from Brighouse and spend my spare time with my fiancé and Toy Poodle, Ralphie, who is well known and fondly thought of by residents. I recently adopted 6 chickens and enjoy spending my time outside when the weather permits. I also serve on the board as a Trustee for Carers Trust Mid Yorkshire in my spare time to give back and help shape the local care provision and support in my local area.

I have been a registered mental health nurse since 2016. Prior to Elmwood I worked in NHS services, including forensic wards, mental health wards, acute general medicine ward and acute older persons mental health ward. During my working career within the NHS I was able to progress to ward manager, providing leadership and management throughout the pandemic. I enjoy working in care services as making a change to someone’s life and improving quality of life is very important to me.


I am born and bred in Barnsley and have 3 children – a son, and 2 daughters. I have a cockapoo called Millie and in my spare time I enjoy walking, camping, travelling and reading. When I'm feeling creative I also love a bit of painting or crochet.

I have worked here at Bupa for 29 years. I enjoy working in the care home sector as nurturing is an element I have naturally gravitated towards; it was instilled in me from a young age by my mother. I worked in hospitality in the 70's and 80's, and subsequently came into the Bupa family many years ago - I enjoy the family dynamic here; everyone is an extension of each other and our team is all part of the foundation that keeps it running so well.


I am a mum of two and a grandma to one. I live locally to the home; just a stone's throw away from Roundhay Park and in my spare time I love learning about culture and places that proceed beyond home. I'm also a lover of soaps, you can't beat a good episode of EastEnders!
