This care home is in a beautiful location with very kind staff. However, the physical aspects of the home are poor. The decor is shabby, the bedrooms dark and too small and look out onto a car park, a bank or an inner courtyard with pretend grass and little else. There are few life-enriching features here. Chairs are crammed together in living rooms, or there is a corridor to sit in with little natural light. Any views almost blocked by a high fence .
A little input: sensory gardens, bird tables, views, nice rooms would make a difference.
A hygienic note: difficult to wash hands in shared residents bathrooms as they are not always close to the toilets (no en-suites ), & no hand sanitisers by the toilets.
The dining room is OK but shabby- not even a bunch of fresh flowers!
The staff are very caring but they are too few , and have to work really hard to keep everything going.
This could be a beautiful place but unfortunately it is not quite there.

Being a recent new client with my wife now a resident. I can only give you my feelings which are as I find Beacon Edge. These are also the feelings of my wife. We are both very pleased up to date with my wife's care and well being. We are also very pleased to have a social worker and health nurse who managed to locate us with Beacon Edge.

My mum has been in beacon Edge since November 2009 and has gone from one of the most challenging residents (heckling at meetings and escaping twice, once managing a 2 mile speed walk) to one of the most easy to manage. In all this time the staff have been patient and caring and I know the ones who are still there are genuinely fond of her. The home has had a lot of recent changes but I think the staff are to be commended for staying supporting people who need them. I still feel the system as a whole needs improving, but overall I know my mum is cared for and as a relative this is essential to us. Well done.
