Mum was in St Olaf in June 2026 for two weeks respite care. She was very happy and settled for her stay and was well looked after - she especially enjoyed the daily activities. I have nothing but praise for the Manager (Kath) and all her staff. I would definitely put Mum there again.

My mother transitioned into this facility today.
From my engagement with the Care Home Manager to this transition experience i have seen nothing but caring and professionalism.
They visited my mother at home and then partnered with myself and my mothers in home carers to help create a strong transition plan that enabled a dementia sufferer to move in dignity while being very cognisant of the emotional impact.

This i am confident is an establishment that cares for its residents and staff alike to make this feel like home.

Thank you for your kind words. We are so pleased to hear that your mother's transition into St Olaf felt caring, professional and dignified. Mum moved into St Olaf in August 2025. It was a huge change for her having been fiercely independent all her life. After going for a visit "to see what she thought"; she said she felt she could be happy there. Fast forward 6/7 months and she is totally at home and enjoys it. The staff are welcoming/friendly and actually spend time with the residents, not just to support their care needs. I regularly see ladies having their hair put in rollers, nails painted or staff supporting activities. There are daily activities for residents and family are encouraged to join in.

The home is always clean and warm and mum is well looked after, I have peace of mind because I know mum is happy and safe. We can come and go, visiting when we like, just as we did when mum was living in her own house, we can even stay for lunch or dinner if we want to.

Mum is more mobile since moving in, her health is the best it's been for over a year.

Overall Experience

We looked for care homes and found St Olaf in Nairn and arranged to meet the manager Kath. She was friendly and welcoming and gave us a tour of the care home. Our first impression was that it was well managed, warm and clean with very visible friendly staff. A room was available so we said yes immediately.

My brother now seems to be becoming part of the furniture. We get sent periodic photos of him feeding the birds, out for a walk and playing scrabble. He helps(!) the staff clearing tables. The food is prepared to a high standard and I can personally vouch for the lasagne and rice pudding! Over the Christmas festive period, I watched him smiling and clapping during the pantomime, a reaction that has been rare in recent years.

I cannot speak more highly of St Olaf, Kath and her whole team who have provided a welcoming, caring and homely environment for my brother. Nothing appears to be too much trouble.

Reply from Kath Allan, Care Home Manager at St Olaf Care Home

We're delighted to hear that from your very first visit, St Olaf felt like the right place for your brother. We are so pleased to know that our team's warm welcome, visible presence and homely environment helped you feel confident in your decision.

It's wonderful to hear how settled your brother...

Dad has now been at St olaf for over a year. We moved him from an appalling situation in an Inverness care home just before Xmas 2024. We were blown away at the time with the care and compassion Dad received ( and indeed we did). Dad was non verbal when we moved him, moribund and we thought that the prognosis was not good. Fast forward to a year later and Dad is still here, flirting with the ladies, enjoying the staff banter and looking forward to his meals and home events. We never thought such a turn around was possible. The care, the excellent food, the compassion and love he receives from everyone in St Olaf has brought about this transformation. As a family we can never thank them enough. Dad is looking forward to his 95th birthday at the end of January.

My review was very predictive. Time was taken to listen to any questions and views expressed by myself on all aspects of the wellbeing of my husband, from health, both physical and mental, to participation in the life of the home and his interaction with the residents. Dad has settled in really well. He enjoys the meals, the menu is varied and is changed regularly, there are tasting sessions for all prior to the changes. Dad takes part in the activities and has recently joined the singing group preparing to Christmas. There's a lovely display of poppies sown the side of the building, residents painted bottle ends and Elena put together the display with help from others. The staff know him and his preferences. The Summer Fete saw local groups come and entertain on a sunny afternoon.

Family are encouraged to be included in what the home has going on, as their time allows, and we're always made to feel welcome.

Review from Iain A (Nephew of Resident) published on 26 August 2025 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My family relative moved to St Olaf from another care home. The difference in care standards between the two providers is notable with St Olaf being better by some margin in my estimation.

My relative has mobility issues. They were previously left in bed for days at a time, perhaps being transferred from bed to a comfy chair just a couple of times a week. At St Olaf they are transferred from their bed every day and are then able to participate in some of the activities and to take meals in a communal setting rather than in isolation.

St Olaf has a more homely ambiance than other care homes that I've visited which have had an unappealing institutional atmosphere. Furthermore, the interior condition is better than I've seen elsewhere. There is an attention to detail that is typically lacking in other care homes.

My only criticism to date is with the billing: So far I've received two incorrect invoices. There is scope for improvement in the back office function

St Olaf Care Home is an excellent home in Nairn. My aunt was here for over a year. I found the home, plus all the staff, amazing. Anytime we would visit, we were made so welcome, and the home is spotless. The staff were not only very caring and professional but also very friendly to all. My aunt was so well looked after; they were so good to her. It was heart-warming to see this, also comforting to know she was in a lovely, caring environment. Sincere gratitude to all involved, thank you.

I can only comment on my visits during the week I have been in Nairn from abroad.
All the staff have been courteous and helpful to us as family of a resident.
We are very impressed with the level of care provided and the facilities available.
The rooms are spacious and provide for families to make their loved one feel most comfortable and homely.

We are confident that our family member has settled well within the location desired and especially nearby to close friends and is being cared for in the most appropriate way at this time.

My Father has been a resident at St Olaf for 6 mths. He has a lovely room and access to several lounges and dining room. He is well looked after by the very caring, well trained and attentive staff. Dad moved to St Olaf Care Home in December following 30 months in another care home where he received very poor care. The decision to move was not easy but vital for him. At the point of his move Dad was non verbal and bed bound.
Thanks to Social Work and the Manager at St Olaf for assessing Dad and supporting his move.
Within 24 hours of his move Dad was at a Christmas party enjoying the celebrations of a loving, caring environment. He has a fabulous room. We never thought that Dad would be out of bed again.

The staff at St Olaf are just exceptional. The environment is lively, homely and supportive. Previously, Dad had lost a lot of weight and was very frail. Within an hour of arrival at the home Dad was receiving a bowl of home made soup and since has enjoyed fabulous home made meals with choices provided. Dad has put on weight and is now talking, participating in activities and enjoying a loving and caring environment. We cannot thank the staff of St Olaf enough.

I don't have to worry about Mum and Dad because I know that they are in caring and patient hands. The manager is very hands-on and a great communicator. She creates a very calming and peaceful home for the residents of St. Olaf. The staff are friendly and approachable and go out of their way to discuss Mum and Dad and answer any questions that I have. The facility is very safe, clean, cozy, and welcoming and looks so festive during the Christmas season. There are also many fun activities that have engaged my parents, especially around the holidays. My dad likes to walk and he gets out with one of the nurses for some daily free air!

I am very relieved that we have found St. Olaf because they have made, what can be a very stressful time for families, into a dignified and respectful experience.

My dad has resided at St Olaf for a few months now where the staff have cared well for him. Tragically Dad is now at end of life which is extremely difficult for us all. It is so supportive that the staff not only take care of your loved one but also you and your family, being kind and compassionate in their approach, it means a lot. Dad has not been able to take part in the activities since the beginning of October so it's difficult for me to comment on this. It would be useful to have a private space available for meetings.
I believe that the staff from the management down really care about the residents and at the end of the day this is all we all want, to be cared for in a kind and compassionate way in our last years.

Thank you to St Olaf!
