The Lindsay is a care home offering nursing, residential, dementia and palliative care.

Short stays and day care are offered to help both carers and their elderly loved ones at times when they need a break or a little extra support.

Rated 'Good' by the CQC (August 2025), The Lindsay is situated a few minutes from the centre of Westbourne and all its amenities – shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. The home has a cinema and café as well as lounges, a library and private dining areas for family and friends to come and enjoy when visiting their loved ones or celebrating a birthday or anniversary together.

This home also benefits from an onsite beauty salon, with a full-time hairdresser offering a brilliant service to all the residents.

At The Lindsay, staff take great care to focus on the person. It’s important for residents to feel at home, so it creates a friendly environment with an individually appropriate balance of care and independence.

The chefs create well-crafted menus made with the freshest ingredients. Soon after a resident arrives at The Lindsay, staff discuss their personal preferences and dietary needs with them.

I would recommend The Lindsay most certainly. The staff very friendly and kind and very helpful. Every floor is so clean fresh and tastefully done, and comfortable and I love their light fittings.

My mum moved into The Lindsay after not being able to cope at home on her own any longer. Since she 1st moved in, the staff have been very friendly and helpful. The home is always lovely and clean. The food looks amazing.

I am restricted with number of words. I had concerns about Mum's care up to Feb 2025 when she passed away after 5+ years at The Lindsay. During that time there were 6 changes of manager and countless issues, some serious enough to report to both the CQC and local authority. My main concern was call
bell response times. The current manager took 4 months to formally apologise about such issues with Mum's care early this year. I also reported to BUPA several H&S concerns which could have affected residents, visitors and staff... why did it take a relative to point out hazards! Why didn't I move Mum elsewhere? Well, her first years at The Lindsay were mostly under Covid restrictions and then, with her Alzheimer's, it was deemed best for her to stay in the environment which was familiar.Therefore my only hope was to fight for improvement... but it was stressful and exhausting for me to do so, and the home has just been upgraded from "Requires Improvement" to "Good" by the CQC.

To say that one member of staff, every time I come to see my gran, she always goes above and beyond, her laughter and quick wit is infectious. She is, to me, what seems to bind the building together.
Also, the member of staff on reception always remembers me, good front of house.

My Dad has been in The Lindsay Care Home 3 weeks now, and he has settled very well. The staff are very friendly, kind and take a genuine interest in my Dad.
The food is amazing, and it's so good to see Dad enjoying his food again.
His room is spacious and clean; we are just waiting for PAT testing
so Dad can have his smart speaker, and waiting for some pictures to be put up on the wall. Overall, all of us are really pleased and relieved with the care Dad is receiving. Thank you.

Outstanding End of Life care for my 98 year old Mother.


After a stay in hospital, Mum returned to The Lindsay Care Home for end of life care. Staff popped in to welcome her back, spend time with her, make her smile, checking on her comfort and her physical, emotional and mental wellbeing, whilst

being mindful of us and recognising we wanted to spend time with her.
I was so very moved by the love, care and respect for Mum's dignity throughout this very difficult time. My husband and I spent 3 days with Mum before she died and were touched by the gentleness, consideration and thought given, not just to Mum, but to us, as relatives too. Senior staff kept us abreast of developments and checked with us at each stage as to how we wished to move forward, the proceedings and what would happen next. When Mum passed away, staff were so very thoughful of our needs. They came up to pay their respects and all had something lovely to say about her. I am so grateful to you all. Thank you.

I count myself extremely fortunate to have been able to have my wife accepted as a resident in The Lindsay Care Home. The care she is receiving is exemplary, and it is a great comfort to know that she is safe and superbly looked after. I spend some five hours every day at the home, giving me ample opportunities
to assess the attitude and professionalism of the staff. They are magnificent in every respect, from the cleaners and the kitchen staff to the nurses and activities personnel to the management team.

Mum spent five months at The Lindsay Care Home, and after the first two weeks, she felt at home. The food was lovely, the room was comfy, staff very friendly. Everyone was very supportive of Mum's English as an additional language and no mobility. All her personal needs were met daily. Thank you so
much for all the special moments including Blue Monday Disco, Valentine's Day cake, Women's Day flowers and birthday cake, cards and flowers just a week before she passed away. It was so special for Mum and for us. Thank you.

The staff are very friendly I was very pleased with the room which is ensuite and has everything he needs. We enjoy our meals in the restaurant where they are very helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. One of the ladies is a credit to the team. Not only does she help in the restaurant but does many
other things including hairdressing. All these things make such a difference.

Ian

Ian Dunthorne

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2024

My name is Ian and I joined The Lindsay as home manager in December 2024.


I live locally to the home although I am from Bedfordshire originally.


My mother was a home carer for the local authority and then a warden controlled village, which first introduced me to the world of elderly care. I then worked as a care assistant for the local authority myself and became interested in rehabilitation aspects of geriatric care and this led me to train as a physiotherapist. I made a departure from clinical physiotherapy and returned to geriatric residential care management.


I worked as a home manager for Bupa for 7 years before moving to New Zealand and subsequently worked as a general manager for Bupa New Zealand for 11 years. As I got older, I felt the pull to return to my home country and moved back to the UK towards the end of 2024.


My passion is travel. I have been lucky enough to travel widely around the world and this is the basis for most of my interests and passions outside of work.

I first joined BUPA in June 2024. I have previously worked within activities and for the last 19 years have been a Care Home Manager. I have a passion for caring for others, specifically for caring for those with dementia. I am a dementia care trainer and also a Dementia Friends Ambassador! Outside of work I enjoy to spend time with my four children and 3 grandchildren. In my spare time I can be found taking my dogs for walks, supporting Norwich City or singing in my choir!

After 15 years of working in a salon, a client who worked in the care home sector asked if I knew anyone who would like to work in a care home. After some thought, I said 'Yes, me!'. I like to make a difference and I feel the care home sector makes a massive difference. It is team-based and is a journey for staff, relatives and residents.


I love it when friends and relatives come in and see their loved ones looking fresh and happy.


Life is about family, making memories and remembering life is short. Outside of work, I love to spend time with my children and walking my dogs.

I joined The Lindsay as a receptionist in the summer of 2023.


Earlier on in my career, I worked as a TV studio administrator producing motivational and corporate videos. After I had my children, I returned to work as a teaching assistant followed by temporary roles as a receptionist.


I particularly enjoy caring for people and making them feel as happy as I can. I enjoy the interaction with residents and their families as well as doing administrative work.


I live locally with my English Pointer dog and two cats. My daughter is local so I see a lot of her. My son lives near Southampton and also has a Pointer.


I love to see friends and family and I enjoy walking, gardening, holidays and the beach.

I have worked for BUPA for three years in total, first as a Receptionist at another BUPA home and now as the Senior Activities Coordinator at The Lindsay. I adore working at the care home, getting to know the residents and making their daily life that bit brighter with our activities and care. I have been married to my husband for eight years and we live locally in Poole. In my spare time I enjoy the arts, gardening and spendig time with my friends.
