My sister in law was in Hilton Lodge only for the last two months of her life. Her accommodation and care were excellent - the staff did everything possible to look after her. The local management were also excellent.
My low rating for 'management' relates to Mansfield Care Ltd, which issued an incorrect
contract and failed to correct it without being reminded.

You have a beautiful building and a very friendly, welcoming staff. The pip in the cafe is a great idea and was much appreciated by my visitors. You also have an interesting programme of activities suitable for people with many disabilities.
Although I did enjoy my stay, your catering staff struggled
to understand that I eat a hay diet (which separates protein and carbs).

An organised, clean, tidy, well appointed and beautifully decorated care home. Residents are well cared for, treated with respect, empathy and dignity. Activities and entertainment are many and varied. The staff are caring, patient, friendly and calm, and appear to work well together as a team with
no signs of discord. Visitors are welcome. Residents' families are well informed.

On visiting Hilton Lodge Care Home in Haddington for the first time, I was indeed impressed. The home is clean, and staff are pleasant. They always make you feel welcome, and nothing is too much trouble. My friend appears to be very well taken care of, as are all the other residents. Also, I am impressed
with the entertainment on offer and enjoy seeing my friend participate when she can.
Keep up the good work, everyone.

8 months since my dad had a severe stroke, upon reviewing care homes we were blown away by the Hilton Lodge in Haddington. Since dad arriving who is in a wheelchair bound and non verbal. He was welcomed into the care home like a family member. As he is non verbal he is very well cared for with all the
team able to communicate with him and include him in activities. From the staff, cleanliness + food everything is excellent. We would highly recommend to all our family + friends.

I would not recommend this Care Home, as a family we had multiple issues with their care of my late father.
Their inadequate care and observations of my Dad condition after his return from hospital resulted in him suffering before taken to hospital where he subsequently died.
A complaint with the
Care Inspectorate was upheld, the details of which are on their website.

My cousin recently spent a week's respite while her husband was in hospital.

Hilton Lodge made her feel extremely welcome. The home was beautiful and the atmosphere was more like a hotel with various lounges to relax in. The staff were warm, caring and professional and made her stay a lovely

experience. An excellent place to live or visit. Thank you all.

Hilton Lodge provided a clean, secure, safe and welcoming space for care. In my experience, as a close friend of a resident, people are treated with kindness and respect. The facilities are excellent and provide both private and shared spaces. This allows for quiet bedrooms and also communal areas with
a wide range of engaging activities for residents during the week. The management is excellent, and the staff are friendly, professional and engaging. The residents are at the centre of how Hilton Lodge is run. In summary, Hilton Lodge has provided an outstanding care experience for the resident I know there.

Care was provided for my husband over a two month period. We were happy with the care he received and could not wish him to be in a better place for the end of his life. We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation of all that was done to make him comfortable and ease his passing. It is a pity
he was not there for longer and unable to enjoy all the facilities on offer.

My mother enjoyed her respite stay. The staff ensured she was involved in all activities and that she ate and drank well. There was an incident when a gentleman was going into her room day and night. This frightened her. The staff and I came up with a solution to ensure mum was and felt safe.

I have never been so impressed with a care home, it's more like a hotel the facilities are fantastic. The difference in my granny from having the constant interaction and different faces has been amazing today she had a hand massage done and actually engaged in a conversation which is massive from last
week. Today I felt she needed her hair washed and lo and behold all the staff went to lengths to ensure she had a wee spot with their hairdressers to have a wee pamper done. Cannot recommend this place enough we were all extremely anxious about her going in for a wee holiday but we had nothing to be anxious over. Friendly staff and again amazing at what they are doing thank you so so much
Reply from Lauren McKinlay, Business Development Manager at Hilton LodgeThank you so much for your lovely review! Your granny was an absolute delight, and it was a pleasure getting to know you and your family as well. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.

Mum was very settled in Hilton Lodge and appeared to have enjoyed her stay (Mum has Dementia so is not able to fully express her own opinion!). This was a first respite stay and we were anxious about how Mum would be but all seemed to go very well. We had no problem establishing old routines on her
return home and all in all the experience was positive.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.254)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.254) out of 10 for Hilton Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.404 for Hilton Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (105 Excellents x 5) + (52 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 178 Ratings = 4.404
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hilton Lodge is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
