Reviews

8.5 Hambleton Grange has a Review Score of 8.5 (8.507)

The Review Score of 8.5 (maximum of 10) for Hambleton Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 14 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Hambleton Grange in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.707 for Hambleton Grange is calculated as follows: ( (123 Excellents x 5) + (39 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 167 Ratings = 4.707

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hambleton Grange is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.5

    2. Target of 10 positive Reviews (50 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 3 Reviews ÷ 10 Target = 0.300

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I am not able to visit my mum as often as I would like but I telephone every day. As well as transferring my call to my mum, the Hambleton Grange team give me an update eg. to prompt her about a chiropody appointment or to let me know she enjoyed a particular entertainment, activity or new menu choice. This helps mum and I connect, which is important when dementia can leave those affected feeling disorientated. I feel she is receiving the best care and this is good for mum and good for me.

We are very happy with the level of care and commitment the residents receive from the staff. All tasks are undertaken and no fuss is made. The residents are treated as individuals but can collectively join in activities should they wish to. We have noticed since the new manager has arrived an increase in the number of outings, organised visitors coming to the home and the 'pop-up restaurant' events. The service user's rooms are well kept, bright airy and modern. Communal areas are bright and clean.

My mother has many needs as she has advanced Alzheimer's. Staff are caring and treat her with dignity and respect. The home is always clean and her dietary requirements are well catered for. Food is fresh and nutritious and home cooked. Activities and outings are regularly organised and well planned. Staff are helpful knowledgeable and caring.

Sunday Lunch: As the 'food' often occupies a great deal of the conversation when I visit Mum, I thought I would join her for lunch one day. When I asked the staff they were so accommodating and happy for me to be there. So, on Sunday I collected Mum from her room and we joined many of the other residents waiting for lunch - this was maybe ten minutes and we chatted away. (As Mum has poor eyesight she often tells me it is an hour's wait!!). It was both a real pleasure for me to listen to stories of their lives, especially the debate of having Yorkshire pudding before lunch or with it! and to see some of the residents (who tend to keep to their rooms throughout the day) interacting with each other, expressing genuine care for each other. As for the staff; there are not enough words to describe their care and total consideration for each and every person. They know exactly how to offer choices, what everyone could or should eat. Even the question "where are the parsnips" was responded to brilliantly (there was actually no room on the plate for any more of anything, but the carer asked the cook if parsnips could be on another day). The choice of meat was chicken and beef and one or two of the residents said the beef was tough. However once cut along the grain it was fine. False teeth and blunt knives don't go too well with beef). Once again the carer was able to talk to the residents about the meal and nothing was overlooked. If I had not been at lunch the message I would have been given by Mum would have been about what Mum had said other than what actually took place. The pudding was delicious and again choice was offered, followed by tea and coffee. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and everyone was treated as the unique individual they are. Some residents wanted to return to their rooms, some to stay a while and some even had their meal delivered to their room. My whole experience felt 'special'. We were all truly cherished. I cannot thank the carers enough for all they do (or have done) for my Mum (and did for my Dad when he visited at Hambleton Grange during the last confusing months of his life). Hambleton Grange is a wonderful place, always has been from the day it opened, but don't take my recommendation, go and see for yourself. The feeling of being loved and cared for will enfold you the minute you walk through the door.

My mother has been at Hambleton Grange for over 2 years and I have been completely satisfied with the care my mother has received. The staff work hard and are always cheerful and nothing is too much trouble. They treat my mother with kindness and respect, maintaining her dignity at all times and I would not wish her to be anywhere else but at Hambleton Grange. All the staff from the carers, laundry staff, catering team, receptionist and manager are always welcoming and helpful. I cannot thank them all enough.

I have always found the staff very helpful and caring.
Prior to the appointment of the present manager, there were times when there appeared to be a shortage and high turnover of staff together with a fraught atmosphere.
The staffing has now greatly improved resulting in a happier environment all round.
