Westerley Christian Care Homes are operated by the charity and company limited by guarantee The Leaders of Worship and Preachers Homes (LWPHomes).

The Homes Today: The objects of LWPHomes are, for the benefit of the community and on behalf of the Leaders of Worship and Preachers Trust, to provide residential care for those in need on terms appropriate to their needs.

We are looking to recruit a weekend cook for our residential home. The successful candidate is required to work Saturday and Sunday from 7am - 2pm. There may be additional working hours available to cover during holidays and sickness.

The holiday entitlement for this role is 12 days per annum. The salary will be reviewed yearly.

Job Description

Weekend Chef

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

  • To prepare and cook a balanced, nutritious diet within a controlled hygienic environment. The weekend cook is also to control systems of food allocation to minimise waste and work within a specified budget.

Line Management: Reports to and is accountable to the Manager and their Line Manager/Shift Leader.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES

· To maintain a balanced diet and varied menus.

· To be aware of the service users’ dietary needs and respond to their comments and requests in respect of the menu.

· To maintain the kitchen equipment, as specified by respective manufacturers.

· To ensure that all kitchen staff cleans the kitchen after use and, at the end of each shift, leave the kitchen in a clean and hygienic state.

· To prepare and cook food of high quality that is presented well, and cleans the kitchen area.

· To be aware of the service users’ dietary needs and respond to their comments and requests in respect of the menu.

· To hold a suitable food and hygiene certificate.

· To dispose of waste correctly.

· To ensure that all food is used within the prescribed period, with particular attention paid to perishable goods.

· To contribute in the serving of food.

· To perform other such reasonable duties as may be required.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

· To comply with regulations regarding Health & Safety Policy and procedures, to be aware of safety hazards within the Home and ensure safe systems of work, manual handling and lifting procedures.

· To comply with COSHH Regulations for the correct storage, use and control of hazardous substances.

· To record and report all accidents and incidents, and ensure that a briefing is given to their Line Manager/Shift Leader

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Food Hygiene Certificate
  • previous experience preferred but not essential
