Job summary

Day Care Manger for elderly people in a care home environment

Abbey Court is an independent care home for the elderly, situated in Yardley, Birmingham, mostly occupied by private guests. The home has undergone extensive refurbishment and an extension to provide a further 6 en suite bedrooms, and further expansion plans are currently in the pipeline. The home provides residential, respite and day care services.

THE ROLE:

Previous experience is essential

The Day Care Managers main duties will be to expand our current day care service, by liaising with social workers and external professionals and also increase our resident capacity. the Day Care Manager will supervise the Activity Assistant and ensure daily activities are carried out as per activity planner

As Day Care Manager, you will plan and co-ordinate an annual program of activities working on programming activities, events and outings week by week this may include several programs a week to be created, planned, organized and implemented, plan up and coming events throughout the year in collaboration with the Manager(s),

In collaboration the Manager(s) to ensure all materials are available for all activities, a room or space is reserved for the event, and any promotional materials are developed and distributed in advance of the programs

Providing a stimulating and therapeutic environment for residents supporting them to remain as independent as possible whilst stimulating their physical and mental state and well-being.

You will encourage residents to continue with pre-existing hobbies and interests whilst assessing individual needs continuously. Besides encouraging our guests to participate in collective activities, you will also each day work on a one-to-one bases with those who do not wish to participate. You will also participate in resident reviews as appropriate. You will liaise and communicate with other members of staff, family members and friends of residents, you will also attend staff meetings and report/record any observations regarding the guest’s health and well-being.

you should have a passion for working with and assisting the elderly as well as strong organizational skills. Positive attitudes and an enthusiasm for the job are important

· Flexible to work at weekends on themed events or birthdays (time off in lieu)

  • Activities should not be just arts and crafts or bingo
  • Music is an important part of our guests lives
  • Social media aware and able to continue to support Facebook with events photographs and captions.
  • Physically able to perform duties such as standing for long periods, squatting, bending and lifting heavy objects
  • Salary is negotiable

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Core skills Proficient computer skills e.g. PowerPoint
  • Excel and Word Knowledge of event planning practices and techniques Ideally Public speaking experience Knowledge of marketing and promotional practices Managing Budgets Valid driver’s license CPR licensed and first aid training
