Breeze Volkswagen at Salisbury Road, Totton, Southampton recently enlisted the help of Town Planning Consultants Tanner & Tilley to appeal against a refusal received from the New Forest District Council. Breeze wanted to remove an external canopy, overclad the existing elevations and complete some improvement works to the outside and the inside of their existing showrooms.
New Forest District Council’s main issue was the effect of the proposal on the character and the appearance of the surrounding area but the appeal inspector decided that this part of Totton was characterised by a mix of commercial and residential uses. The Appeal Inspector decided that the proposal would sit comfortably in the street scene and would not harm the character or appearance of the surrounding area.
Tim Treweeks Head of Business at Breeze Van Centre commented after hearing the result “Breeze Volkswagen is delighted with the news that we can now press on and develop our Van Centre in Southampton. The visual improvements alone will improve the dealership greatly and the internal modernisation will provide a retail environment that we can be proud of.
We are very grateful to Tanner & Tilley Town Planning Consultants for their help in achieving this approval and we are looking forward to working with Greendale Construction to ensure we achieve our development within the shortest time possible whilst still trading and with the utmost consideration to all our neighbours.
The objective is to complete the development by late spring and in the meantime assure all customers that we will remain fully open during this time.”
Carlie O’Neill Business Executive for Tanner & Tilley commented after the Appeal Decision “It is great for Tanner & Tilley to be working for Companies such a Breeze Van Centre in order that they can continue to grow in a very difficult economic climate.”
