Residents at Whittington House, Cheltenham eagerly gathered in the Vista Suite Rose lounge for the Quarterly Residents Relatives meeting on Wednesday 25 January at 3pm, where they were delighted to welcome vocal entertainer Helen Whitney.

Helen kept everyone entertained for an hour and took them on a trip down memory lane with a variety of songs from all genres including songs by Vera Lynn, Abba and Bette Midler. The songs had the residents singing along, clapping and moving to the beat, including those with limited mobility and in wheelchairs.

Jenny and Jo, Activities Coordinators commented: “As a result of this event we were able to have very successful one-to-ones and group discussions reminiscing about music from their past, which gave us an insight into hosting popular future events here at our home. We endeavour to offer a variety of activities and events at Whittington House, which inspire the residents to relive their happy memories and of course to enjoy themselves and have fun.”

Everyone enjoyed the refreshments provided and for days after the event, our residents and families were talking fondly about it.

Bob S, a resident’s family member, said: “It was a lovely afternoon and the music brought a tear to our eyes.”

As this was such a resounding success with residents and team members alike, they are all looking forward to holding similar events soon.
