What an incredible day we had on Thursday 19th October here at Lawton Manor Care Home, supporting brighterkind’s Wishing Wheels programme to raise money for Children in Need.
At 8.00 am, the start of the day shift, the first member of staff climbed onto the exercise bike, placed in a prominent position in our reception area, ready to start the bike-a-thon. We had planned for each member of staff on duty to ride the bike for 15 minutes with staff making a donation to ride the bike. By lunchtime, we had staff sponsoring family members who also wished to be involved in the bike-a-thon.
The ‘wear a t-shirt to work’ event also proved successful as staff opted to make a £2 donation to the Pudsey bucket to join in the non-uniform day and chose to wear Pudsey t-shirts.
We also held a coffee and cake morning along with a fantastic raffle so that our residents, families and friends from the community to come and share in our fund raising event. We raised £170 just from this event!
The big event of the day was our 5 members of staff (Sarah Heath, Jane Byrne, Lydia Stringer, Pam Coulter & Ross Ganaden) who kindly (bravely) volunteered to join the brighterkind team in the Wishing Wheels event. They cycled 5 miles in the pouring rain to our nearest brighterkind home – Lawton Rise in Goldenhill. A warm welcome, cheers and champagne flowed as the cyclists arrived on the car park at Lawton Rise. The little brown bear and the Pudsey tie, which is worn by the next group of cyclists, were handed over to the riders at Lawton Rise ready for them to set off on their journey the next day.
At the close of day, we had managed to raise £840.00 for Children in Need along with sponsorship and donated money, which has yet to be added to this total. This was a fantastic amount to raise in one day and everyone felt proud of his or her involvement in the event – thank you to everyone who participated!
