The Brooklyn House Nursing Home team in Attleborough have been praised in the home’s latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection report for their kindness, compassion and caring manner.
Brooklyn House is a modern, purpose-built care home in Norfolk, situated in the heart of the attractive market town of Attleborough, offering nursing care for up to 38 elderly people. The home was rated good in every one of the five sections – safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led – in the inspection which took place in September.
Inspectors were told that residents felt safe and their needs were met. A resident told them: “I like to spend most of the time on my own but the staff come and check up on how I am frequently.”
Another added; “The staff are very polite and wanted to know all about me so they could help me before I came here.”
“The staff are very caring people,” a relative told the inspection team. “My relative understands everything although they cannot verbally communicate. The staff do not talk over them and always engage with them.”
The CQC praised the home and said that people were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives. Residents’ privacy and dignity were respected by the care teams who were familiar with their needs and took into account how people wanted to be cared for. Whilst observing the teams during the inspection it was obvious that staff had a good understanding of the needs, abilities and difficulties experienced by the people living at Brooklyn House.
Residents were supported to have sufficient to eat and drink at mealtimes. One person said; “The food is very good and some lovely choices are available.” Another added; “The chef is nice and will do something on the spur of the moment for you.”
Activities at Brooklyn House were also praised. One resident told the team; “We do have trips out and there is entertainment, always something to do here.” Each resident’s care plan contained details of what the person liked to do and how the staff would support them with their hobbies and interests.
Home Manager Kathryn Abbs said: “At Caring Homes we want to ensure that our home is just that – a caring home.
“Here at Brooklyn we are all delighted at the praise we have received from the CQC inspectors following our latest inspection and that we have achieved a Good overall rating. We have worked hard with the CQC to continually improve standards at Brooklyn House which was previously rated as Requires Improvement.”
